2018: Wicker Man - General Discussion - SPOILERS! - Part One

I've heard:
Duel closing for retheme into "The Gruffalo: Tall Tails"
Current Gloomy Wood transforms into "Deep, Dark Woods".
Battle Galleons removal due to lack of riders and budget cuts.
Remaining Mutiny Bay becoming "Gloomy Wood" (mk 2) encompassing SW8 as well as Heave Ho! and Marauders rethemes and a permanent Alton Ancestors show in the courtyard.

...or maybe not.
 
I heard KC, MB and GW were to be combined in to an area of Iron Maiden themeing, with The Wickerman in the centre, Duel rethemed to Number Of The Beast, Rapids themed to Paschendale with red coloured water, RMT becoming Fear Of The Dark themed, Heave Ho becoming Ghost Of The Navigator themed, Marauders Mayhem becoming Can I Play With Madness? Themed and Battle Galleons becoming Aces High themed.


Maybe not?
 
@PeteB - please do continue to share your thoughts and opinions, just nudging to keep things civil. I thoroughly recommend use of a reputable healthcare website for advice and guidance on what to do in the event of a post-related bodily malfunction, as well as keeping a telephone to hand for any emergency calls. Just dragged the map out myself... SW8 is clearly marked as being in front of SEALIFE (whoops, nearly forgot my caps lock!) and next to Mutiny Bay.

A fishy pirate theme this can only mean?
 
I've been a graphic designer in various marketing departments for the last seven years and I know as well as anyone that sometimes in big run print projects like this designers can take liberties with certain details in order to make the design work. The Mutiny Bay section of the map is 'full' of text already and realistically the font can't be made any smaller nor can the boxes be made any bigger without adding significant time to the design work. I think its highly likely that the designer just added SW8 where there was space and the park accepted it as it needed to go to print/they know that 95% of people looking at the map (non-enthusiasts) will not give it a second thought.

Now the above is just me speculating from experience. I do still think there is a distinct possibility that it is intentional and that the entrance to the ride could be towards Haunted Hollow and listed as part of Gloomy Wood (as the Mutiny Bay entrance to HH currently is). This idea I think is given more potential with the trademarking of the 'wickerman' name.

Essentially I think both possibilities have decent reasoning behind them and there is no need for people to be shot down for speculation. Nobody knows more than anyone else in here realistically so we may aswell speculate with the scraps we have!
 
Just a little image here to help with deliberations. The red scribble is basically where the new ride is being built. The yellow scribble is where Duel is (In my understanding, Gloomy Wood). Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, I rest my case.

Yes but also the entrance to Haunted Hollow is literally just to the side of your red scribble. They already list this as part of Gloomy Wood so its not impossible that the new ride would connect via that.

Again, i too think its not likely, but its certainly not as stupid an idea as some are saying.

I've updated your image to image to include all of Gloomy Wood as currently exists on the park maps and AltonTowers.com ;)

I will concede though that for this to work IRL© Haunted Hollow would need to become much more than it currently is.
The location seems like a light railway system could work well replacing the path :D

If this is actually turns out to be in Gloomy Wood some people will neee double portions of humble pie.

I couldn't care less where it is, I'll be at Blackpool :)

I will rephrase:

I shall be visiting Blackpool more often next year but I shall possibly visit Towers a few times to ride this wooden roller coaster if such a venture pleaseth me.

If it does turn out to be In Gloomy Wood, it will be only in name, not geographical reality. But yes, I will happily hold my hands up and accept tomatoes to the face if it does indeed turn out to be the case. But it won't.

And the queue runs all the way through the Towers, over the white bridge, through the newly painted conservatories, around the top of the gardens, along the HH, around the courtyard then to the ride entrance via the Skyride
 
When have towers started marketing new rides outside of the park in the past? Blackpool already have a few videos out and the press are reporting on the name today - looks like they are using the double launch as their main usp. Interesting to see how towers go about sw8 marketing wise.
 
Maybe they could rent out the Angel of the North and cover it in wicker for a month or two, with some kind of message. That's if it is actually based on the Wicker Man. You can have that for free Towers ;)

Edit - By the way, I'm not really into all of this modern art stuff, but, it must be a really nice thing for people from that part of the country to see that thing when returning home. I really like it.
