Thorpe want their idea back.
And you will remember every little detail about it too
Looks like Gangsta Granny: The Ride is coming to Alton Towers next year:
Sure it will be a big hit with families. Certainly take my 6 year old. They did a great job with Gruffalo at CWOA so expecting same quality here.
The rest of the land is what intrigues me the most. Interesting to see what they go for. Surely a new 4D movie is a no brainer. Infrastructure already in place.
I'm assuming this will be what was being built in the Wobble World building?
Also, this should also fill the void of a family dark ride at the park, which is good news!
Fantastic to see a new dark ride, hopefully it goes down well.
Indeed. More indoor rides the better for me. The parks needs it because the weather is often pretty grim.
New Dark Ride plus hopefully a new 4D film in the theatre would go a decent way to improving the non coaster line up.
If only they could get N-ST back open in some capacity too even if they have to start all over with new hardware.
Ah damn I was hoping for the ride to be based executive passenger liaison office Moses Bacon (if you'll pardon the pun).
One little nitpick from me; I wish Theme Parks would stop just adding 'The Ride' on everything for the easy way out. Would it have been that difficult to call it Gangsta Granny's Secret Mission or something along those lines, just to give it a bit more personality?
Other than that I think it's going to be a welcome addition to the park, TBF anything would be with tiny ride line-up the park currently has. Hopefully The World of David Walliams will bring this corner of the park back to life, as did the opening of Cloud Cuckoo Land back in 2009.
Credit to Disney, they avoide "the ride" cliche. It's something that bothers me too, so it's good to know the whole industry doesn't do it.
I do think that this ride could be very good for that mid-ground family audience; David Walliams' books seem to appeal to this demographic, and the fact that Alton Towers keeps referring to this as the "headline attraction" leads me to believe that it could be something quite special!
Also, what sort of ride system are we expecting here? I'm not too sure what could fit in the Wobble World building space, but Merlin's past purchases and the car in the rendering lead me to believe that it could be a Triotech/ART International ride system like the Ninjago rides at the Legoland parks and Ghostbusters 5D at Heide Park.
I honestly think this is a really positive announcement. A) we’ve got a dark ride and not just a walk through which is great. B) I feared the attraction in Wobble World would be a ‘best of’ featuring scenes from numerous books. Theming it to a single book seems more manageable. C) The book really lends itself to a ride - much more than many other Walliams books. It’s a simple story with a range of settings and minimal characters. Somewhat similar to the Gruffalo in that sense.
I'd take 'headline attraction' with a pinch of salt. Spinball Whizzer is the headline attraction in Adventure Land, for the sole purpose it's the only one. If all it has to contend with is a frog hopper and a carousel, that'll be why it's the headline attraction.
As for the ride system and just expect a simple track ride. I wouldn't presume it to be anything like Ninjago: (THE RIDE!!!!!!!), expect Charlie and the Chocolate Factory: (THE RIDE!!!!!!!) on a track instead of in a boat.
Also, I'd be intrigued to know whether we're expecting screens, physical theming or a mix of both here. Judging by Gruffalo, I'd be inclined to expect a mix of both, but who knows!
Something like this seems on brand and on budget
At least the ride cars are themed...
I just hope the ride is better quality and higher effort than the concept art! I think I could do better with Photoshop in 10 mins
A dark ride, in a 700 square meter area (at a push, if Driving School loses its inside space and the cafe is gone) comparatively Duel is 2300 square meters. Plus the rumour some of the queue is inside too which makes the area EVEN smaller...
I cant wait to see how this turns out.
Good news that it will be at least a new ride in TWODW, and even better a new dark ride.
