[2024] Thorpe Park: Hyperia - Mack Hypercoaster

Maybe it’s supposed to be “find you’re fearless”?
Literally what I posted.
Sounds like an inspirational Gen Z (Zoomer?) TikTok quote. For once the typical "you're" "your" typo would have actually improved this. Find You're Fearless / Find You Are Fearless. Maybe it IS actually a typo?

The tag line is just terrible. Doesnt suggest the rest of the theming will be any good if they cant get a tagline to make sense.

I could be missing something here, but I took it to mean “find the fearless version of yourself” or something along those lines. I’ve heard “find your happy” in TV adverts before now, so I don’t really see it as being a lot different to that.

It’s an odd slogan, though. It sounds like the slogan of a posh fragrance or something rather than the slogan of a roller coaster.

I guess the slogan is a pretty unimportant issue in the grand scheme of things, though.

Only just watched the clip on YouTube to avoid validating Elon Musk by providing his couldron of hate website more traffic. Seems like a cool theme is brewing to me. We should see more of this rather than the usual black tracked horror themes Merlin usually churn out.

The problem still remains the laughably short ride length for such a tall coaster. That won't be solved so with that context in mind, there's little point in nitpicking the way the theme could potentially go at such an early stage or the name from me. I don't see anything new to moan about, quite the opposite actaully. Which is unusual for me.

I quite like the tagline. It's certainly got people talking.

Genuinely very excited about this. Don't have any complaints whatsoever, it's short but will pack a punch.

Think I might even get a Thorpe AP/MAP o_O When's the best time to buy? Haven't had one in about ten years.

It's actually a slogan for Puma, so you're not far off there (with the fashion comparison).

Black Friday usually, although there is currently a campaign for O2/Virgin Media customers with the O2 Priority app, which is offering significant discount on MAP.

Name is ok, will probably grow on me.

Bit like Smiler. Didn't get it at first but its a cool name now.

Ultimately it depends how it rides and how the final product looks. All said and done, it's still Brake Run - The Ride to me

Yeah, I used the 02 offer to get a Gold Merlin pass for ÂŁ180 last week. Can't really see even Merlin themselves beating that when they have Black Friday or whatever in future. Would have got the Alton pass again but I knew I'd at least be going to Thorpe once next year for the new coaster.

Regarding the tagine - I've definitely heard it before (Well done @GooseOnTheLoose for finding source!) I believe it was also Tango too, quick Google seems to confirm both! (And others) It's a shame it's not original but as the story unfolds, it could explain the choice.

I have a feeling the ride will be more "stylised" than "themed". Also, in the video the soundtrack seems to match up perfectly with the train going through the layout... either clever editing or a hint to onboard audio. An onboard soundtrack would be great if so! Just speculation at this point of course, though.

In the same way that colossus is only lightly themed to a lost city and the main aspect of the ride being lots of inversions, I expect this to have a light Greek god theme and the main aspect is lots of height.

People will want to ride it because it is tall, same as because Colossus has ten inversions.

Has anyone given some thought as to what the total ride duration from dispatch to brake run will be? I know there were some older NL2 creations but would be interested to hear everyone's thoughts. Nemesis is often reputed as a short coaster at around 1m20 so interested to see how this compares. Part of me wishes there were some extended RMC-esque elements after the sideways airtime hill following the splash down .. but this is still huge for the UK and that first drop will be world class.

I’ve heard 30-40 seconds thrown around as the duration from the top of the lift hill to the brake run, so including the lift hill and pre-lift section, I imagine it might not be dissimilar in duration to Nemesis.

As much as some are saying the length will be a deal breaker for them, I don’t think it will be a huge problem (for me, at least). It’s not length that matters, but rather how it is utilised, and Hyperia looks to utilise its length phenomenally, with a sequence of elements that look truly breathtaking!

I’d also argue that Hyperia isn’t as excessively short as some make out; I think I saw someone once say that one of the NL2 creations estimated its lift hill to brake run duration as being only 8 seconds shorter than Zadra, and the length of that ride doesn’t seem to have held it back in praise terms! Skyrush is also a pretty short ride that’s utterly revered, and Hyperia isn’t any shorter than many of the 200ft+ Dive Coasters, which are popular enough in themselves, while packing unique, impactful elements and a seemingly relentless pace that seem to be exciting enthusiasts far more than any Dive Coaster!

So personally, I think that Hyperia could be very popular among enthusiasts provided that the elements it does have hit really hard and make an impact. And I personally have every faith that those elements will really deliver!

I totally agree with you Matt! Also pretty surprised to hear about that comparison to Zadra given how long it seems on the POVs! (Next on my bucket list). The element I'm most looking forward to on Hyperia, though, has to be that outer-banked stall turn into the downward twist. - I have no idea what the official name of that element is / should be but it is so unique! And the first drop on the back row ... goes without saying :)

Personally love the upbeat theme and soundtrack. But I’m getting serious Pawnee VIBES from parks and recreation when it comes to the tagline!
