Alton Towers Zoo

Ok so i've just been thinking, i would love Alton Towers to have a zoo located somewhere in the park, it'd be a great addition to the park and would suit alot of families who are not all out thrill seekers. The park is the perfect setting for a zoo and i think it would be great, i'am not to sure where it would be located but the name Alton Zoo just sounds fantastic :)

I'am pretty doubtfull it would happen as i don't think there's really a high demand for a zoo or the space for one at the park, but it's something i'd love to see.

What's your views on Alton Towers getting a zoo as a future attraction ? Would it work for Alton ? Is there space ? Where would you like to see a zoo located in the park ( if anywhere ) ?

I don't think that Alton really needs a zoo particularly with Blackbrook just a few miles away.

With Alton's serious space shortage, either they'd have to keep the animals in small cramped enclosures, like nasty zoos of the past, or they'd have to give so much space over to the zoo that they'd barely have any space for future new rides. :)

We do already have thefarm, but that doesn't have the same demand as a zoo would.

However, if a zoo was built, then it would have to be put on a car park, reducing space for another ride, possibly SW8, or on another piece of land, which will upset the locals even more.

I can't really see it happening...

Perhaps a miniature safari could be combined with the lodge style accommodation that they have plans for? That would not only add to Alton's resort but it would be a great benefit for people who aren't staying in one of the hotels. It wouldn't have to be as big as Blackbrook though, and the animals would definitely need to be different.

They've got a lot of land by the hotels, so perhaps with a Downtown Disney / Universal City Walk style area for evening entertainment (again, nothing too big, just a couple of restaurants, maybe some activities and some shows), a safari / zoo might prove to be an okay addition?

If Alton Towers want to improve access to the park from surrounding roads and get trains running to the park in the future, these extra guests are going to need more to do. It'd help if the park was open a little longer to start with, like other major theme parks across the world.

I doubt it would happen, but it would be nice. :p

Maybe a small animal zoological area, within the Farm zone could be possible. Without affecting the rest of the park.

Small animals don't take big areas to live happily and humanly. most of the habitats are between fish tank and minibus in size. (the college I work at has zoological status)

anyway most kids love something unusual and weird.

Personally I don't think that Alton towers would be right with a zoo. I really don't like the combind zoos and theme parks such as Drayton manor if merlin ever want to have a zoo I think they should invest in longleat safari park

Zoos take up a lot of space. Judging by the size of Chessington's Zoo, I don't think there is anywhere in Alton where a Zoo Suitable for the Animals can be built.

Just go to Chessie! :)

I don't think that this would be a good idea. There's always a zoo fairly close to you and I don't think people would be interested enough to visit it, especially if they have travelled a long way.

i live about 5 hours away from the towers, and about 15 munites away from my local zoo, i don't wanna travel for 5 hours either way just to see a zoo, i would travel to go on rides weird i know.

AT doesn't need a Zoo; there is no demand for it to happen, no space or any logistics towards inclusion, it would be out of place with the current marketing. Most families are happy with the Farmyard anyway as it's a little hideaway from the ruckus and noise of the main park plus there are plenty of Zoos in the UK, such as West Midlands and Chester, which aren't too far from AT as it is. I think. There's already Chessington if you wish to experience both animals and rides.

really alton does not need one. we have the farm and that is good enough for most kids. there actually would barely be enough room for a zoo. i don't like it. sorry.

I would also think that having a zoo would then internally rival one of the major selling points of Chessington, and no-one's in more desperate need for promotion than them!

If my hazy Towers history serves me right, I believe they actually had a small Zoo back in the fifties and sixties. Not sure what was in it though...can't imagine it was massive either :p

I can only echo other people sentiments on this subject. A zoo wouldn't be viable for Towers at the minute or for Merlin as a group. Anything to detract visitors away from Chessington would be a bit harsh in my opinion really!

EDIT: If in doubt, Barryzola it :p

Does anyone else think that the Dungheap could be converted into a all year Freaky Farm but maybe with less Scarefest-y animals. Dungheap can be easily merged with Adventure Land as there is space. This could then lead to a small zoo of quirky animals with some space for a few unique species that really make the guests remember their day at the Towers. That is priority with a small zoo as there is no way Alton will use large space as more gaps begin to be filled. But I don't think we'll get it while Merlin are still around as of the competition nearby, Chessie and the public would prefer new rides.

Not to mention that the Dungheap is still a pretty new investment. It's crap, but won't be going anywhere too soon methinks.
