Maelstrom isn’t going anywhere. Going with my son on Monday there was lots of junior school trips and it was the same even when I 1st went in Junior school in 91 or 92. It’s always been a family theme park with Shockwave been the only 1.4 coaster on park. Even Pandemonium was a much lower height limit when it 1st opened.
Apocalypse and the area where the outside queue use to be, Pandemonium and even test track would be perfect space for a spinning coaster.

Hopefully the do have some solid plans for their replacement and not just some cash grab. Nonetheless it is a real shame, particularly If Apocalypse leaves the country as it really does leave the UK with a dwindling portfolio of permanent rides.

The looping group have spend millions already this season.
The Entrance plaza was all repainted.
The entertainment venue opposite the crazy golf is currently been refitted and new theming added outside.
The listed building is also having a lot of work done to it that’s why the top entrance has been moved further down.
Sheriff showdown frontage repaired and repainted.
The Haunting mad house section had a lot of work done and they were working on the front of the house a couple of weeks ago.
The toilets in Thomas land is now open.
The 4D cinema been fitted out ready for the new Thomas film and the fronts of them buildings repainted.
All that on top of the Adventure Cove work.

They currently doing safety training on the rapids and that looks like it could open soon. Think the wave swinger will be all finished for the end of the month.

I suppose this might have been one of the reasons they closed the cable cars such q shame.

Was the cable car a particularly rough ride then?

No, but I presume that when the car come off the cable into the free rolling section into the station, I'm assuming that it collided with a stationary car????

It was described as setting off too quickly so he had to position himself to protect his children, or something like that. So I'm guessing the children put themselves in front of a moving gondola and he blocked them from being struck by it?

Edit. It's even better than the original story, he's been ordered to pay all of Draytons hundreds and thousands of legal costs after he was on social media white water rafting when supposedly badly injured.:smile:

You can buy one of the cables cars. They are available in one of the shops for £2000

I would say this was almost certainly the reason why it was removed. The ride was maintained to a high standard and had not long before had a massive refurbishment, upgrading the drive system from a 1960's Ford car engine, to a more modern electric/ hydraulic drive.

Shame really, I think it was the last example of these British made cable cars in operation. With the ones before that being the ones at Alton Towers, which the Skyride replaced.

The Llandudno ones are British made. I think the Flamingo Land ones as well if they aren't gone for good.

So they are, great to see too. As that specific model is very rare now. I must have been getting confused with Staffordshire.

It's such a shame but Drayton didn't need another massive court case it the media. I wish they had found there feet again and hadn't of had to sell. It was one of the biggest family owned parks left and they had done a great job for a long time. They had some plans before the accident that would have been brilliant. Thinking things like the replacement for buffalo and G-force would have probably stayed but if not they would have replaced it.

I have always had a special place for Drayton and I really hope Looping Group have big plans for Drayton and it can recover its image.

If they hadn’t have sold we definitely wouldn’t see the developments we’ve seen this year and hopefully will continue to see for years to come. It’s a shame it lost its family owned status but I’m equally excited for the future of the park.

Yes I am very excited and pleased to see the family still involved although I won't imagine that will last long. I do wonder if adventure cove was planned a few years ago but was stopped because of financial issues and when looping took over they just looked at the plans and where like yeah that looks good here's the money. As there was rumours of a beach/seaside themed area. If the accident on the rapids didn't happen it would still be family owned and probably would be in a much better position than it is now. I really hope Drayton do add a family coaster of some form. Which is really what they need and have needed for sometime know.

It would appear that Drayton are preparing to make an announcement tomorrow at 10am:

Wonder what it could be? An opening date for Adventure Cove, perhaps?
