Does anyone here like Friday Night Dinner? If you do, then good news; the new season begins this month! Here's a promo that Channel 4 put out recently:

I can't wait! The last season was brilliant, and I think this one looks the same from the trailer!

Very much looking forward to it! Great shame about the passing of Frances Cuka (Nelly)

Won’t be the same without Wilson either, is Jim going to replace him...

Despite her absence from this promo, I reckon there's a chance she could appear this year, as I think filming wrapped up before she died.

I think Jim will be replacing him, as some of the early promotional releases mentioned that he's got a new dog!

I love it! I went to see Tom Rosenthal (plays Jonny) do his stand up show last week and he was amazing and very nice when we met him afterwards!

I have more news regarding the upcoming season; firstly, it will start on Friday 27th March at 10pm.

Secondly, I just saw this very promising review from someone who's already seen the first 2 episodes, which also includes an updated trailer:

Should be fantastic; can't wait for the 27th!

If you've been watching the season so far, I'd be intrigued to know; what are your thoughts on it? Because it seems to be dividing opinion on the internet.

As for my own thoughts:
  • I thought the first episode (The Caravan) was fantastic, and probably one of my favourite episodes.
  • I didn't think the second episode (The Plastic Bag) was quite as good, but it was still funny.
  • I actually thought that tonight's episode (The Au Pair) was quite funny, but it seems to be getting absolutely slaughtered on IMDB.

I absolutely love it so far!! It does feel a bit different but I'm putting that down to the fact that this is the first season I've got myself properly hyped for so maybe it's that? But I'm still loving it - so much that last night I booked tickets to see Tom Rosenthal's show again!

It's bloody funny and I'm enjoying it, but something about it feels a bit off. I keep noticing the actors having to oddly and unnaturaly hold expressions while the other actors do their bit when usually the framing or cut wouldn't have allowed you to dwell on those characters, it's like it's not had the usual level of care in camera set up or editing or something?

Definitely a weaker episode than usual last night. The guest character was irritating rather than funny and Jim has definitely regressed as a character and / or been overused throughout the last couple of seasons.

That said, The Caravan was extremely funny. One of the best. So there is life in the show yet.

I must say, there are more fellow Friday Night Dinner viewers on this forum than I was expecting!

It might interest you all to know that the show has apparently had its highest ever viewing figures this season, with The Caravan being the most-watched episode of comedy ever on Channel 4! For this reason, I could actually see there potentially being another season; Robert Popper seems to have plenty of ideas up his sleeves!

As for my thoughts on the current season, I'd say that The Caravan was my favourite so far; a really funny episode, and probably one of my all-time favourites! I did also really like The Plastic Bag, but I wasn't quite so sure on The Au Pair; there were bits of it I found funny, like
Jim's dancing
and
Jim having "dropped a marble"
, but there were other bits that I found a bit awkward, and I think that the actual portrayal of the au pair as a character (who I discovered is actually played by an English actress) was almost a little bit racist, in a sense; did anyone else think this?

I've got a good topic related to the show we could discuss; what are some of your favourite all-time episodes, out of all the ones they've done? Some of mine include:
  • The Fox (Series 3 Episode 2)
  • The Two Tonys (Series 4 Episode 1)
  • The Carpet Cleaner (Series 4 Episode 2)
  • The Funeral (Series 4 Episode 5)
  • The Caravan (Series 6 Episode 1)
There are probably more, but those are the first ones that come to mind off the top of my head!

Sally Phillips is an incredible comedy actress. I fell in love with her in the 90s when she was in Fist of Fun. Ask your parents.

And no. A funny accent does not amount to racism.

Has anyone watched tonight's episode? I thought it was really funny tonight, with quite an unexpected ending!

if I had to compare it to the others of the series, I'd probably say it's easily my 2nd favourite of Season 6 so far behind The Caravan at very worst; it was very good tonight!

It should have ended after Wilson died in series 5. This series has felt forced and unfunny. Programmes which rely heavily on catchphrases tend to have a short shelf-life and I believe FND has surpassed its best-before date.

Well, well, well; what did we all think to tonight's installment? I thought it was absolutely brilliant tonight, with the bits where
Jim ate all the rice pudding
and
Auntie Val was locked in the cage and they were trying to get her out
in particular being very funny! In fact, I think it might well be my favourite of the series so far!

I loved this one! It was really funny and Jim didn't disappoint. It was the first one this series where all four of us laughed.

Well, that's the end of Season 6, and judging by the tone of the episode, I think it could very well be the end of the programme!

I thought that tonight's finale was fantastic; I was killing myself laughing when
Martin spilt the soup on himself
, and I thought that the things that happened, as well as the humour, just made it a fantastic episode, on the whole; it would certainly be very fitting if this was the finale!

If I had to rank the episodes from this season, as I know many of you like my ranking, I would go with:
  1. The Females
  2. The Caravan
  3. The Cage
  4. The Plastic Bag
  5. Dad's Birthday
  6. The Au Pair

I really enjoyed tonight’s episode, and in General I’ve liked the majority of the series.

It did feel like it could be the end, but then again with all what happened in it they could easily make another series or two. I guess it’s very much left the door opened but also finished on a high.
