Motion for Mac

Hi all,

I'm looking at moving on from iMovie in terms of video editing, and I've had a quick browse of the Mac app store, and I've come across an affordable piece of software called "Motion".

It's £34.99, and I was wondering if it's worth buying, and seeing if any of you TST-ers have used it at all in the past. Is it easy to use? What sort of features does it have? etc.

It's a shame there's no free trial/lite version, because then I wouldn't have needed to post up here. :(

I am really sorry to off topic on your question because I have no idea, I just wanted to add I thought this was going to be another song but for Mack rides.

I read Mac now, and my brain goes ROLLERCOASTER.

I'm also planning on getting a ROLAND electronic piano... seriously! :p

I'm an editor myself and I would avoid using Motion for video editing. Motion is software you would use as an add-on to a non-linear video editing software (most likely Final Cut Pro) to create things like graphics, titles, effects etc. The interface for Motion I'm not a fan of either.

You will struggle to find a decent editing software without paying for a subscription or package itself. If you did want to consider it, I would advise going for Adobe's Creative Cloud suite which is £40 a month, but you have access to every latest version of Adobe software including Premiere Pro (which I prefer to FCP), After Effects (Adobe's Motion but it's a thousand times better), Photoshop and a number of others. I think you can get a 1-month free trial so maybe try that.

Alternatively, if you didn't mind using old software, you could probably get an old version of FCP or Premiere for a sum which isn't too much.

Thanks, at last, a relevant reply!

I would rather not pay monthly for such software, as I don't edit all that often, maybe 3/4 times a month, and I much prefer paying a fixed price and being done with it.

Can you recommend any editing software less than £100 that enables me to do this?

Just download it from the Pirate Bay or something...

I did it with Photoshop and saved a good sum of money, it works the same way, and saves you the hassle of going out to buy it!

And is fairly illegal! I'm surprised team members are advertising this tbh!

Look for Adobe suite 2, whatever it's called, on the Adobe site. They released it for free a little while ago. Make sure you read the t&c's because it's morally questionable but not strictly illegal.

Nevermind, it seems they've changed it around a bit and on closer inspection it didn't include movie editing software anyway! :(
