Have they got restraints which restrain now then?

If the restraints are the cause of its demise, with the replacement ones being no good if you weigh more than about 10 stone I understand (I don't know, never did the reopened version), then surely any potential reopening is entirely dependent on that?

I’m 6’2 and 15 stone and I rode the reopened version in summer 2015 without issue. I know a few people had issues, but personally I didn’t have a problem at all.

You don't actually need a drop section for a ride like this. Any oldies like me who were lucky to experience Alien Encounter at Disney will tell you that.

That attraction was superb. One of the best experiences I have ever had on any ride still to this day. It was very creepy, a little too creepy evidently too given the complaints it got from parents of scared kids.

Good story, lighting, effects, audio and the leg ticklers and smoke is enough if done well.

Really hope we get it back.

I really hope it doesn't come back. The whole experience annoyed me from beginning to end, though by far the most aggravating aspect of it was being shouted at by the batching hosts. Just, go away!

I'd be tempted to denounce the ride as being all style, no substance if it wasn't for the fact that it didn't really have a lot of style either, it was just irritating in every possible way.

The main reason I never rode it. When invited to have a look round a military facility, you wouldn't be yelled at by any means. It makes no sense.

I enjoyed it and was always on my 'hit list' for the days I was pushed for time on park.

I hope it returns but the amount of time it's been left makes me think it won't ever be coming back and will turn into another Nickelodeon Outta Control.

Most of the non coaster/non CBeebies ride/attraction has been removed or SBNO that Merlin added to the park since they took over. They only care about rides that they sell Fast track tickets on.

There is no Fastrack at all in CBeebies Land, undermining your theory somewhat.

It is far more likely to be related to maintenance and operating costs vs ride popularity.

NST had a dedicated fastrack entrance, so it ticked that particular box. For a while there was a Forbidden Valley fastrack ticket comprising Nemesis, Air and NST IIRC.

As @John said, it was the shouting that was annoying on the ride, along with the timer countdown to add "fear". If they had taken more inspiration from Disney style attractions where most of the attraction is done via lights, video and animatronics it would also have been a much cheaper ride to run as it wouldn't need all the staff. I think the attraction design took too much from Dungeons style staff heavy experiences rather than actual rides. It isn't really a dark ride, more of a walk through experiance with a drop tower half way.

Agreed, I still remember my 10 year old self being traumatised by Alien Encounter. Christ.

I also had a soft spot for the ride, the effects were actually half decent and it was essentially a flat ride which the park is sadly lacking in.

However agree with the consensus, some spotty 17 year old ride host shouting to pretend to be military was just tiresome and badly executed.
The ride videos were self explanatory and it would have been better to let it have the experience have a darker undertone than camp shouty kids.

I would actually love for the ride to come back, but after all this time I can’t really see it coming back. I imagine over time it will just end up a scaremaze attraction, over the years more bits will be ripped out and any chance of it coming back will be gone.

Oh the ride as we knew it will almost certainly never be coming back.

However the infrastructure is there for the building to be repurposed. I think it will be used to house another attraction eventually as it's a cheaper option for Merlin. The main ride building, pre show area and queue line are all there waiting to go. It would be criminal to let it go to waste.

It’s hard to think what they could put in there, as it’s basically a square room for the ride with a little extension at the front and back. I suppose it goes down quite deep but other than a drop tower I’m not sure what else they could use the space for.

Kids indoor play area would be probably the best thing, upsell it per hour.

The same drop towers (with the lapbar issues fixed) or some other variation of a drop tower (there's plenty of alternative tower rides that could work in the same space) would be fine.

If they figured a way to run it on less staff (the numbers for Sub-Terra were ridiculous) and retheme/rebrand it, the attraction should be as good as new. Could be a good opportunity for a cheaper investment year as the infrastructure is there.

It’s probably been asked in the past but how many staff members were required to run the ride and how many were assigned to each post?

I always thought it was a shame that there was only the one drop on the ride really. Different drop patterns similar to Tower of Terror would’ve made its re-ride value go up drastically. Obviously this could affect the throughput but still...
