Assumed that would be the case. I thought universal would want to announce their own project.

The journalists here (Alibhe Rea and Alex Wickham) are incredibly well-sourced; this will be correct.I would take this with quite the pinch of salt. It's not even "government sources', or "departmental sources"..
Doesn't surprise me that the Government will be giving the go ahead, but equally doesn't surprise me that they won't be announcing that formally as Universal will want to do the announcement themselves. Hopefully this paves the way to an announcement from Universal later this year, with a nice piece of concept art for us to swoon over!

I feel like at the very least some sort of Nintendo world must be guaranteed, given that they have it at all their other sites now. Enough time will have passed to not take the shine away from Epic Universe tooI cannot contain how excited i am for the concept art! Part of me would love to not know anything and just go to the park when (if) it opens but appreciate that's impossible in this day and age.
I assume immigration visas for construction workers were a part of these negotiations.Just need some boisterous MP to Parliamentary Privilege the announcement in the House of Commons now.
There are more positive than negative signs at the moment and hopefully if it does happen because it's significant private construction it will move forward quicker than HS2 has; sure is going to suck up a lot of construction crews that won't be able to build houses and infrastructure though. I still fully expect the LTC to be under consultation by the time I retire though.
And Sizewell. That’s started kicking off recently on top of all those.I assume immigration visas for construction workers were a part of these negotiations.
Sticky subject due to current conversations in the general public but we simply do not have the capacity to build this with our own domestic workers. We have houses, HS2 (kinda) and Hinkley all sucking up construction crews.
Agreed, apprenticeship schemes would be a great idea. There was a a massive building skills shortage in the UK mostly due to successive governments since Blair pushing kids to go to Uni all while devaluing and leaving private industry to train new workers.
Large scale projects like Universal will require alot of skilled workers, it would be nice to see apprenticeship schemes tied in with construction rather than the quick fix of importing workers.
Visas will definitely be needed for some of the more specialist roles. The planning for the park alone will require that, when was the last time we had a whole new park built from scratch in the UK. Apprenticeships will hopefully form part of the overall build package.Agreed, apprenticeship schemes would be a great idea.
I’ve always thought we should be telling teenagers in school we’ll give them a 5/10K tax free payment once they’ve completed a trade apprenticeship/have been in work in said trade for X amount of time.
We did it with nurses and teachers, trades should be the next thing on the agenda.
I still think visas will be handed out though, maybe specific visa for this specific project. Once it’s complete the visa expires.

So what he's saying, yeah, is to send a Freedom of Information Request to HM Treasury just to see how many creds we'll get if Universal GB gets built, right? And whether the Treasury will be subsidising Universal GB so they can build a Harry Potter-themed RMC?
Was Gulliver’s Valley in Sheffield not built from scratch in 2020ish?
Not that we are talking the same scale as Universal of course.
Like buses it'll be, you wait for a new UK park then two come at once!I believe it was. I would also say it’s likely that Puy Du Fou gets off the ground around the same time as Universal so we could potentially be looking at two brand new parks under construction at the same time!
