Trip Planning: Information, advice and questions!

Hello,

Quick question. Heading to EP tomorrow and going the Basel route for the first time (I only have experience with baden baden).

Ideally I'd like to book the train transfer today to get the super saver ticket as opposed to tomorrow where only the flexisaver will be available. I'm planning on how long it'll take for me to transfer from landing to SBB. Theres a train 1 hour 5 minutes from SBB after landing - 2 people with only carry on luggage will this be possible?

Thanks!

Unfortunately there’s not a right answer to this. It depends on whether your plane is on time, where you’re sat on the plane, how quickly you can disembark, how many planes have landed around that time and where they’ve come from and thus how long the queue for passport control is, how that coordinates with what time the bus is due etc.

Personally I’d say just over an hour is tight, but you might get in early, off the plane quickly, fly through passport control and just catch the bus. That’s a lot to go right though.

If flight is on time and then you are amongst the first at passport control then possibly. But if you are near to the back of the queue at Passport control expect to be waiting an hour or more. They are not known for being quick there, at least you haven't got hold luggage to worry about, which would still be waiting to come through even after an hour wait to get through Passport control.

Worth noting that both front and rear exits are usually used, so if you are situated towards middle of plane then most likely be last off). On the plus side, busses to Basel SBB operate every 10 minutes. I'd personally factor in 2 hours

Did the Basel route this weekend and there were heavy delays due to engineering works, no idea how much is going on etc and we had to change trains rather than the direct one, but another thing to consider

A minor query, but can somebody remind me if the EP Express hotel station is accessible after you pass through the Hotel Guest entrance, or is it before? If so, how does the ticket scan work? Arriving mid-afternoon with some newbies and feel like taking the monorail to the 'proper' entrance will be a nice introduction for the days ahead (yes, I'm more excited than they are)

Before, with a staff member up there with a turnstyle iirc. If you want after, the Spain station is close by.

Quick question next year Ascension day falls on the Thursday in half term 29th may and I know it’s one of the busiest times to visit and avoid. Being restricted to school hols if went at the start of half term ie Sat to wed (sun-tues in the park) would that also be super busy or do the extra bank hol crowds not start arriving until the wed/thurs? Or is it best to avoid that week completely?

Ho the first half of the week. You'll be fine.

Hello all,

So we're off to EuropaPark in July as part of a euro road trip. We've done DisneyWorld a few times and so I'm used to planning this kind of trip, but I'm a little behind the curve to be honest... The road trip has taken a lot of planning time and as a result I've not yet focused on how to make the most of our two days in Rust.

We've got two teenage boys with varying levels of thrill requirement. We're staying in the Bell Rock and have a two day ticket.

I'd love to hear any hints and tips you have for our stay. Any rides, restaurants or attractions you think we shouldn't miss would be very welcome too.

Thanks so much.

Food loop is a funny concept, but food is better in other places like Schloss Balthasar, Don Quijote, Spices, Bamboo Bay, O‘Mackays etc.

OP: For good tips you have to give more information. When are you there exactly, beginning of July or end of July, on the weekend or during the week? Both has big influence on the waiting times.

Must do family attractions are Piraten in Batavia, Voletarium, Arthur, Can-Can-Coaster. If you like thrill, also Voltron, Wodan, Blue Fire, Silver Star. But all the bigger attractions are worth a visit, except perhaps Euro-Mir (it´s very debated). And many of the smaller are great, too.

But in the end the park itself is the main attraction: big, beautiful, great gardening, thousands of big trees, you have a Castle from 1450 in it and other original old houses, you have art, you have culture, shows, etc. More than you will manage in the 2 days, probably.

For extensive reading preparation I recommend this thread: https://towersstreet.com/talk/threa...going-to-europa-park-for-the-first-time.5924/

Start your days early (entry before 8h30), use the hotel exclusive entry time and know that you can stay in the evening after closer for some time. Closing time means that waiting areas are closing, but you can still go through the park and enjoy it for up to 1 hour later.

I'd definitely recommend Mir. Might be marmite but it's the best steel coaster there I've done (not ridden Voltron yet)

Hello, I would like to know a few recommendations regarding places to stay. The city Rust would be the closest option obv, but I don't know about affordable hotels. Then again I can't drive so I am forced to take the public transport and Rust is kinda small and has only bus stations. I looked at the map and found Offenburg in the north with a train station. I can't decide if I should chose a city outside of Rust and take the busses to the park or stay at Rust somewhere (the park hotels are too expensive for me). Side note I want to visit the park for two days (no Rulantica).

If you don't have your own transport, I'd recommend you don't consider anywhere else but Rust. It's possible to get to the park via shuttle bus from Ringsheim but it's infrequent and doesn't run late, it's enough of a pain trying to use it to get to and from the town of Rust on your arrival and departure days, let alone as a means to get to the park each day.

There's a good mix of options in Rust, from the higher end resort hotels to mid-range apartments and cheap guesthouses, and pretty much everywhere is within walking distance of the park entrance. Book early if you can, but I don't think you will struggle to find something suitable.

Agree with NuttySquirrel on staying in Rust, don’t bother with Ringsheim. Take a look on booking.com to see what’s available for the dates you want to stay, use the map option to get an idea of where places are located (don’t forget to tick hide unavailable accommodation so you only see what’s available for your dates). Generally, the quality of accommodation is good in Rust thanks to high occupancy rates, so just use the booking.com guest ratings as a guide. In terms of whereabouts to stay, you’ve got a few options:
  • Nearer to the theme park entrance - If you want a short walk to/from the theme park entrance, then the north eastern end of Rust is a good shout. This gives you a short walk in the morning and night, but does mean you’ll be walking across town if you wanted to spend an evening at the hotels.
  • Nearer to the hotels - The southern end of Rust nearer to EP’s hotels is now my preferred place for accommodation. It’s a longer walk in the morning to get to the main entrance, but then if you wanted to pop to the hotels on an evening it’s much easier. You can also have a shorter walk back as you can head out of the hotel entrance at the end of the day. Unfortunately you can’t use it to get into the park, but I enjoy the morning walk down to the main entrance. It’s also an easy 10-15 minute walk over to Rulantica if you were to spend a day there.
If there’s only accommodation available further out and you didn’t want to walk, there is the Rust bus service and the Hotel Shuttle available to use. You can find information on this on Rust’s website and the Hotel Shuttle varies depending on demand. Generally though, it’s at least every 30 minutes. They can get busy at peak times, so prioritise somewhere within walking distance (which pretty much everywhere is) if at all possible.

If you find somewhere on booking.com, don’t forget to check to see if the place has a direct booking website. Booking.com takes a large fee from the owner, so you may find better rates are available if booking direct with the owner :).

Hello

Planning a trip over to EP in the middle of August. I wanted to stay on site but cost and availability is an issue. I've booked (with free cancellation) the Hotel AM Park right by the park entrance. Anyone stayed here before? Is it good? It's not cheap either but with a 4 year old, I don't wanna have to walk to far to get in and out of the park each day.

Also any good food options in Rust would also be appreciated.
