TST Olympics

An idea... With no bearing on the actual Olympics as planning this could take a while and it may be best to do something like that during the closed season blues (plus it might take that bloody long to plan it)

The TST Olympics would be a GIANT forum game in which just about anyone who posts on here can take part. Split into 4 equal teams who can then take on the personality of a real or fictitious country and will compete over a series of events to try and top the medals table. The event would take place over a few weeks and give everyone on the teams a chance to compete in some way.

Ideas for events could be things like:
  • Scavenger Hunt
  • iSketch
  • Coaster Layout Game
  • BIG Pub Quiz
  • Countdown
  • Olympics Bookies
  • Alton Quiz

Oh and for those that hate the Olympics, this doesn't cost £24bn, has no corporate sponsorship and no sweatshops were used to make the athletes uniforms ;)

Thoughts?

To be honest. I love this idea. It would be a great way to bring back the pub quiz to TST. Events begin on Aug 11th to celebrate TST's second month.
I'd happily also celebrate by twisting the Tavern games and Photoshop Challenges.

I vote for an epic pub quiz led by Joel. Provided that he gets the equipment working and that he doesn't break anything. :p

Fantastic brainwave from Mr. Brightside!
Great idea. Me thinks everyone who wishes to be involved should put their name forwards before a deadline, teams should be mixed up a little and let the games commence. It'd be a great way to the site going and would really bring out the community feel.

Mass Skype opening ceremony anybody?

Im sure me and Joel have discussed this already, some variety of radio quiz like we used to do would be great to return - but at present the site is the main priority and these quizzes do take alot of time to do.

Let me speak with boss man / computery genius joel again, and ill let you all know.

Update!

There is a radio show on the horizon - more details to be released in the tavern soon-ish.

Sounds awesome! But I would imagine that I speak for most of us (I may be wrong) when I say we'd probably prefer it not to be sports-based questions?

When I suggested the original idea, I meant it purely being an 'Olympics' in name only and not really involving anything to do with sport...

If this idea has been a catalyst for a radio quiz by Joel and Ben to come back then fantastic - but my original mooting of pub quiz as part of a 'TST Olympics' was for one that was definitely not centered around sports. But obviously I don't know what Joel/Ben have planned.

I'd much rather it be categorized with general knowledge like a normal pub quiz, but plonked with a few theme park bits in there. That's probably how I'm going to handle the Ma's games too. But of course at the end of the day it is up to the hosts themselves. Albeit, I look forward to it nonetheless.

Since it will be Tavern rated. May I suggest a joke round maybe? Or a live Scenes We'd Like to See or something?

With the radio quiz, I was thinking that perhaps a round should be dedicated to sport/the Olympics. Of course, it's not my place to say what definitely should or should not be included, but perhaps one round on sport would be satisfactory to most people.

Hahahaha I love it!
Though for official purposes incase the olympic copyright committee are looking and already priming a lawsuit for using the words and typeface, we as TST can accept no responsibility for the images created by our members, nor the resemblance of disco eggs to any image or persons, living, dead or fictitious is purely incidental (that covers us right?!).

To be honest I know my sports knowledge is rather limited to that of swimmers, divers and their bodies. And looking around the sporting prowess of TST isnt exactly that high. Content hasnt been decided yet, we'll be looking next week - but all suggestions are welcome.

Haha, I know what you mean ;) It wasn't intended to be official, although the font is modified to a point where it's allowed.

Will the RMT Fighting Ring be classed as a certified TowersStreet Games™ event?
