Universal Orlando (Studios/IOA/Epic Universe) : General Discussion

Don’t think it’s been mentioned properly but, Fear Factor is gone now, for good! Which leaves an impressive stage.. and amount for space!

Que MORE HARRY POTTER! Either love or or hate it but I think it’s pretty likely that this space is going to be transformed into more Potter’ space.

Current roumers suggest that it’s going to be a cross between VR/Flight Of Passage and that your flying on a broomstick, which in essence could be linked to quidditch.

Now, we all know how unreliable VR is and I don’t think any park in Florida has attempted a VR ride as such have they? (Apart from Kraken at SeaWorld which has since swiftly been removed) so it is a interesting choice.

Personally, I hope they don’t do it as I’m not keen on VR anyway, but this is Universal and they will have the money to plow into it.

That was originally planned to be part of Epic Universe, but now it's rumoured that instead it'll be built on Fear Factor Live's spot.

Epic Universe has always been planned as a New York & Paris ministry of magic based on Fantastic Beasts. I don't recall seeing anything planned for EU based on Harry Potter rather than the wider Wizarding World and FB.

Insiders have been saying for the last year or two that one of the planned attractions was based on Harry Potter and the VR based brook stick attraction. Which is now been been moved to universal. It’s also now being reported that fantastic beasts has been dropped and will be all Harry Potter based. The outside will remain as the Paris setting from fantastic beasts though so it’s different than the London based diagon alley. The main ride will be based in the English ministry with some kind of effect to transport you from Paris to England. One rumour is it will be a ride based on the flying car.

the second attraction that’s now moved to universal will be just space left for future expansion. Although apparently an additional attraction has been added else where to make up for it. One rumour is a copy of Hollywood’s secret life of pets and will be added as a mini land off the main hub.

obviously all of above is just rumour and nothing confirmed.

Ah I'm a bit behind on the changes then. I recall reading it was now Paris and New York but still loosely based on their ministries, hadn't realised it had moved back to representing London.

I've started to hear some stuff swirling around about what changes could be in store when Revenge of the Mummy receives its refurbishment in 2022, and it sounds interesting!

I'm hearing rumours swirling around that we could be seeing Hulk-style track upgrades here, as well as a slightly altered theme that removes the Brendan Fraser/movie set aspect of it, instead putting you straight into the tomb story itself.

To be honest, I quite like the sound of that! If the movie set stuff went and was replaced by Egyptian tomb stuff, with the queue and final scene being made to look more like a tomb (or at least something slightly more befitting of the Egyptian theme), I honestly think I'd prefer that to the original, because I always found the movie-based elements of it (for instance, "where's my cup of coffee?" from Brendan Fraser at the end of the ride) slightly confusing and out of step with the rest of the attraction. If I hadn't later read the ride synopsis online, I wouldn't get those bits at all.
EDIT: I should also mention that permits have been filed for a brand new control system:

Did anyone on here get to ride the Kong attraction before it. I thought overall it was a better attraction. The best part for me for the mummy coaster is the 1 part and the ceiling of fire. Don’t think the coaster is that good.

I quite like the coaster, particularly on the back row. It’s certainly far better than the California version.

I also like the ride overall, agree with the above much better than the Hollywood version. Actually disappointed it might be closed when I go in August. Late summer could mean it opens by august but not expecting it be.

I'm against all this. The movie set theme and the ride in a way being a bit rubbish ("cup of coffee!") is part of what makes it one of the best rides in the resort, and by far the most charming since Jaws left.

Sounds like it'll go the way of nearly all of Universal's rides: spectacular but humourless.

I for one will be very upset if they remove Brendan Fraser’s cup of coffee line…

Today I have been at IOA for the first time in 4 years and since Hagrids and Velocicoaster have opened. Rode Velocicoaster twice. The ride is fantastic and such a great coaster. However the second ride was just after park close at 9pm and so was in the dark and I was towards the back of the train and just WOW, was probably the best coaster experiences I have ever had, absolutely amazing. Can’t wait to get more goes on it over the next few days.

Hagrids was also a great ride and really enjoyed it. Universal and Intamin have done a fantastic job with both rides.

Also the other newish attraction at universal which has gone under the radar somewhat is the Bourne stuntacular- this is also an incredible addition and very well done attraction, I had heard it was good but it really is an outstanding attraction.

After a couple of misses (ie fast and furious and Jimmy Fallen, universal have really hit the ball out of the park with these 3 attractions.

I was watching a video of this the other day and I have to say I was really impressed. It seems to have really flown under the radar, having never really seen it discussed anywhere, but looks like an excellent show. It almost felt like Universal Studios returning to its roots after gutting attractions like Twister and Terminator. Hoping to get to see it in person in a few weeks time!

I'm also going to Universal in a few weeks time and really looking forward to these, Terminator was always super so will be interesting to see if Bourne is as good.

I'm expecting to get some night rides on Hagrids just to try and avoid the queues too!
