Wicker Man - General Discussion - Part Two

The only people who really know are the people at the top of the hierarchy and those in the tent conducting the work itself. its all going to be guesses and speculation from us unfortunately, Just wish the park would be more transparent.

Tbf towers can't exactly make a statement saying they're most popular ride is closed as that may put people off coming

They certainly can, an A board in the plaza before the sales windows and availability section on the website. They don’t need to shout about it but make the info available for those who want to check. Even Thorpe did this with DBGT (although that mess was embarrassing)

Much smaller parks have this info available, Oakwood even had a number you could call!

The App should also say “unavailable today” if a ride isn’t going to open.

Yes the app should 100% say it will be closed all day, just like back on the 4th July when Rita and TH13TEEN both said "this ride will be closed today". It's common courtesy for guests visiting to be honest.

Apparently GCI have been called out, which will obviously take a while due to quarantining...
It's gonna be closed for a while.

It doesn't surprise me with the stress that must be put on the track after that s bend where the ride is at its fastest

Considering GCI have built coasters that reach speeds substantially faster than Wicker Man (in fact, if RCDB is anything to go by, it’s actually their slowest coaster, at only 43.6mph).

Considering Wodan at Europa Park and Python in Bamboo Forest at Nanchang Sunac Land are their joint fastest coasters, at 62.1mph, and don’t seem to have suffered track issues to anywhere near this extent (I can’t speak for Python, but I haven’t heard of anything major. Wodan almost definitely hasn’t, from what I can tell; could anyone with more insight into Europa offer any additional info?). I know raw top speed isn’t everything, but I’d wager that these rides also have multiple sections that are considerably more intense/forceful than any section of Wicker Man (thus exerting far more strain upon the track), which makes Wicker Man’s comparative plethora of issues all the more baffling.

Maybe it’s something to do with the copious amounts of mist and smoke that the wood has to deal with within the area? Although that wouldn’t explain things such as why the lift hill reportedly feels a bit dodgy in comparison to other GCIs (WM is apparently the only one that jerks back and forth when engaging with the lift hill)... maybe Towers were just unlucky?

I know Wodan’s chan has snapped with a train full of guests heading up.
This is true, however I don’t think the ride has ever had any structural issues in any of the faster sections to the degree that Wicker Man seemingly is, despite being 18.5mph faster.

Could it be that Wicker Man is a more compact layout and the stress points are closer together?
Possibly, but GCI have built layouts that look more compact than Wicker Man’s in the past, and those have (seemingly) never had issues. White Lightning, Heidi and Wilkolak (all pretty much the same layout) are pretty compact, and they’ve never had issues of this magnitude as far as I’m aware.

I adore Wicker Man, but I must admit that it really is an enigma of a ride in terms of its reliability...

Since none of us have eyes on these other parks as much as Towers, isn’t it quite feasible that these other GCI’s have had closures of a couple of days at some point during their existence for unforeseen works to be carried out?

It’s just no-one round these parts would notice because we aren’t sat on fahrt-times.de all day.

Quite possibly, but Wicker Man does seem to have had rather a lot in such a short space of time compared to many other coasters, as well as its general reliability when operating seemingly being lower than that of other GCIs (e.g. it seems to have a lot more stoppages and temporary delays than other GCIs).
