Wicker Man - General Discussion - Part Two

It's more likely that he was too tall for the bar to lock than being 'turned away'. As there's not really an angle to the seat or the t bar, if you're really tall, your thighs might not sit flush with the seat, meaning the bar won't go back far enough to lock. Crossing your legs a little may help though if you do struggle, but it's no different to any of the other GCIs really :)

I'm not sure but being too tall may well have been putting it kindly, he is a rather large chap is he not?

:)

Was standing next to him in Marg's on Friday night. I'm 6" 1 and had to look up. I'd guess he was 6" 5, 6" 6 but he is large in every dimension really... Wouldn't be too shocked if he went on and banged his head on the sound tunnels :D

However, Craig's comment is also probably valid.

I'm 6ft 5 but nowhere near as wide as he is. I hope I fit.

EDIT:

Crossing my legs has got me on a few rides I would'nt have fit on usually. Indiana Jones at DLP is a particularly bad one. Those trains are tiny. Remember riding that in pain from my legs and the awful ride experience too. Hate it.

I’m 6ft 4 and have only really struggled with flat rides (Huss Top Spins & Zierer Star Shape) pushing down on my shoulders.

Wickerman unlikely to open tomorrow. That's from Alton Towers themselves on twitter.

Damn! :(

Rag N Bone Man is 196cm according to Google, and having stood next to him, I'd say that's accurate. Watching the dispatch a few times now, the restraints aren't overly forgiving to those both tall, and uhm.. stocky? One of the actors couldn't ride because of his size.

This worries me as I'm between 194-195cm. However I'd say I'm a good 4/5 stone lighter too by looks of him. Never not been able to ride a woodie ever due to my long legs. Be absolutely devastated if I can't ride it when it does eventually open.

Considering Galactica, Th13teen, Oblivion & The Smiler have yet to open I don't think wood is the problem.

What I don't understand, however, is why Galactica and Oblivion were running all day but never actually opened. If they were running then the track must have been ice free and the temperatures must have been alright.

I hate upper height limits, I'm sure there must be a way for ride designers to get around them.
Well it depends on the restraints. With an OTSR the limit isn't overall height, but the length of your torso. For lap restraints the limit is usually the length of your legs. I struggle to squeeze in to MS spinners, not because I am tall, but because I am fat. Crossing my legs helps. Never had a problem on a GCI yet though.

Then of course you have rides where the clearance envelope is too small, so they just slap a max height on the ride in case some tall idiot tries to grab something as the wizz past. These are the ones that could be avoided in the design stage.

Poor Wickerman Vs Snow

Can you imagine the head honchos at Merlin - "Now this is why we didn't want a Wooden coaster!!!" :p
Had the same thought earlier :D

Didn’t someone say Pleasure Beach do a track walk and squirt it with hot water to get rid of ice?
