Wicker Man - General Discussion - Part Two

Yes.

Silver Star is significantly taller which means the top of the lift hill is much colder than ground level.

The B&Ms at Towers, for obvious reasons, do not suffer from this problem.

The restrictions come from B&M - not AT, in the handbook.

:)

Yeah I know where the restrictions come from, was just surprised that the B&M’s would be such a low temperature as -5 considering the risk of ice and they will have been calibrated for a temperate climate.

So is that definately right about the others not operating below zero? Alton must know in that case they can't open wicker man on opening day looking at the temperatures.....

Yes - if there is ice on the track then any ride cannot run.

It is also important to remember that there needs to be some form of rain/moisture for there to be ice - hence the -5 on Alton's B&Ms.

I rode Silver Star in a heavy snow shower and bitterly cold conditions at EP in December.

However, it closed 30 mins later.

Smiler accident to put people off - Check

Crap weather in recent months meaning people don't book future day trips soon enough - Check

No proper adverts on TV so far - Check

Awful weather forecasted for 2 days time - Check

Couldn't ask for more of a chance of more ride time on opening day, unless they hadn't slashed single rider. Bring on opening day :)

If the weather forecasts are accurate I really can't see them opening it tbh.

In fairness they've not been *too* over the top with opening day hype, and it would be perfectly understandable... They can't control the weather.

Unless they leave it running overnight Friday to keep the track warmed up ;)

I bet Merlin will be singing and dancing at this, now reassured they have an adequate number of excuses to feed investors with, they can finally relax! No body will guess that cuts are to blame!:p

To be fair, even if the rides don't open, I'd be interested to see any changes in the gardens and if the Towers are open (my pet hate/love) anyway. Pick up a few pin badges etc. The fewer guests on opening day the better for me, anyway.

I should have charged for this valuable info. Can't believe I handed it over for free. They should probably employ me :)

Regarding forecast for the weekend... forecasts change a lot. Apparently they only really mean anything less than a day in advance. It might be above 0 on Saturday for all we know.

I honestly reckon it'll open. My parents said the forecast doesn't look severe enough for the park to close.

The park will open, no doubt. Gotta get that money somehow.
.... The rides, on the other hand, will depend on chance.

If the forecast doesn’t change then both the wind and the temperature will stop the major rides operating including wickerman I would suspect.

Be interesting to see if they pull the opening.

Looking at the updated Met Office forecast, with heavy snow from for 3 hours overnight, light snow throughout the day and heavy snow again tomorrow afternoon, I am not expecting the park to open. Which of course is going to be a great shame.

I feel sorry for Towers, they get everything ready way in advance and then this happens.

:)

Heavy snow all afternoon and 40mph winds. I can't see it opening. If it does.... I think it will open in the morning, try and run wicker man but close by midday. I'm just debating the 3 hour drive up as I have a hotel booked this evening but I'm starting to think otherwise and maybe go up next weekend.
