General Hotel Discussion

Jeez that's terrible management although hilarious at the same time, 4 people with only two passes and they're through, that's laughable bad.

Stayed at the hotel this week, it was ok...

Emperor's Grill is fantastic, even if my booking was somehow lost through the phone, but they were ok with it and able to squeeze us in... Food was brilliant, such a shame it's only open in truly busy season...

Someone toned down the music in the Atrium, well done them, and the Sir Algenon stuff is pretty decent as well...

They had stuff on in the Conference Centre as well, which was all aimed at kids (CBeebies Land themed party), we naturally crashed this and it was very well done, with plenty of other things for kids to do and comfy bean bags...

Secret Garden was a poor thing unfortunately, hideously understaffed on Monday, as it took 15 minutes for us to be seated, then another 10 to be served... Can't fault the speed of the food service as it arrived prior to the drinks mind... But it was just poor, especially given there was a queue of people waiting outside and 5 uncleaned tables right at the entrance...

Did the Spa for the first time too, wow it's actually decent... And the 3 hour package for £45 per person is actually great value considering it includes near enough everything they have available...

Waterpark was ok if busy, finally did the Master Blaster which un-nerved my long legs... They need to sort out the changing rooms layout though because it's an utter mess and cannot cope with large numbers of people...

Golf needs a little freshen up, and a card machine... Why would anywhere that sells something NOT have a card machine these days? Stupid thing...

Overall a good couple of days, nowt too amazing but at least this had been booked in a sale... The prices are daft...

Nice to see that golfs card machine still isn't working two weeks after it wasn't working when I was there.

It's all a plot to make you use the £1.75 cash machine in the Splash arcade ;)

That wasn't accepting cards either... Had to go all the way to Towers Hotel to get money out ::)

Talking of cash machines - why is it they can have 3 free to use ones in the entrance to the theme park - but no where else in the resort. Surely they could install a free to use cashpoint in one of the hotels. Its a bit of a cheek to have to pay £1.85 or whatever it is to withdraw cash.

The reason will simply be because they are all those portable Link cash machines. Whereas the ones on Towers Street are your more traditional 'hole in the wall' ones...

I agree there should be more free cash machines though - particularly in the hotels!

The Golf card machine wasn't working when I went at the end of March!! Surely it hasn't been out of action all this time?

Also to add to the previous note about hotel guests and ERT, I bought BOGOF tickets on the day when staying in March and was then able to walk straight through Mutiny Bay with barely even a flash of the hotel key card. Quite glad they're not strict about it!

On top of the new CBeebies theme rooms, it appears that there are two new themed rooms in ATH. The Dreamy Den and the Hidden Hideaway.

They both come with complimentary Prosecco, Elemis gift bag, 20% discount vouchers for Spa retail products and three hours access to the Aqua Relaxation Rooms. Seem like a nice addition!

They are the old Tatty Teddy rooms. The contract must have ended so they've had a slight retheme.

Look really nice, but what's the point?

They're classy, style-conscious rooms in a theme park that has done everything in its power to move away from the classy and stylish image it once had (think Swans, think the old formal uniforms for entrance staff).

This would have suited 90s Towers, or Efteling or Dollywood now. But they seem a bit odd in 2014 Towers. Hopefully symbolic of a new direction.

This is literally a "We've removed the name, we want to keep the pricing, we'll bundle spa in to see how it goes" situation.

The rooms themselves from those pictures literally are still Tatty Teddy through and through.

It suits the spa clientel, hence the spa add on.

The rooms look lovely. I think that it is a good idea for AT to be catering to different types of guests.
I still am unsure as to why AT thought that Tatty Teddy Rooms would be suitable in the first place. Was there any promotion or event perhaps that i missed?

There were no events. I think the rooms were more aimed at families and couples as a themed room to stay in. They lasted 7 years in the hotel so must have been popular over the years!

Although the Dreamy Den and the Hidden Hideaway were what the rooms were called when it was Tatty teddy themed; and the only difference with them now is the Tatty Teddy paintings on the walls have been painted over in neutral colours. So not 'new' rooms in any way at all.

Throwing in a spa offer may be a good tester for seeing if spa-only guests could be attracted to rooms specifically aimed at them.

I genuinely think the ATH extension will be marketed as a separate Spa hotel and this may be testing the waters for a product aimed at that market. It's easy to do and will give them an idea of how popular a Spa hotel will be. It would fit in with the original MO of the extension which was to provide 35 executive level rooms.

The rooms look stylish but the current hotel management had nothing to do with their design.

If they had they would be plastered in plastic vinyls.

I'm actually in the hotel at the moment and haven't been for a year, shocked to see what they have done with flambos. Not a fan anymore ! The selection has also been reduced and it seems like the quality has also.

I think prices have gone up as well, all the food places on park have reduced selection and quality, but increased prices, is it expensive at Flambos? My favourite used to be Flambos but now I just end up getting one of the kids meals from burger kitchen

I went to Flambos last week for the first time since the change around. I dont think there is that much choice, and if anything, I found the food quality to be better. I liked the area showing the BBQ and chickens being cooked. The only complaint I had was that around the dessert tables were a bit messy and some of the bowls and plates hadnt been refilled. Its the same price, £19.99 or £16 AP discount, which we all thought was good given how nice the food was.

In other news, Pirate Bill announced on Facebook today that he will be retiring in September this year!

Sad to hear he is leaving as kids have always enjoyed his shows and his empty tubeeeee. Will be interesting to see what ents do for the kids now to replace David's shows, that's if they will have any intention of creating something new.
