So you've all had a little over a week to vote in the 2014 better late than never Member Awards, and I'm please to finally announce the results!
2014 Forum Awards
Probably one of the most varied set of votes we've ever had for the forum awards, there are a really small number of votes for most of the winning topics as votes were so wide ranging!
Best Alton Towers related Topic
SW8 Speculation (Started by TheBeast) - We've not really heard too much about this yet, but there's been plenty of speculation for the resort's 2017 addition. After a a few family focussed years so far, this rumoured ride is hotly anticipated
Best non Alton Towers related Topic
Phantasialand Present and Future (Started by James6) - It seemed like we were waiting forever for the park's new water ride Chiapas to open, and extensive theming and an IMAscore soundtrack gave us plenty to talk about.
Funniest Topic of the Year
Dear Diogo, from a fellow Diana fan (Started by 'Dianafan997') - 8 votes were received for the now infamous "Diana troll thread". Started off as a bit of a joke by Kieron, DanB, Panda, Ian and yours truly, it soon snowballed into full blown psychological warfare with the main aim being to break poor Diogo by sending him endless cheap Princess Diana and Royal related tat with the sole rule being it had to cost under a fiver. Special mention goes to Panda'll Paint it which received 6 votes.
Fail Topic of the Year
The Writing is on the wall (Started by BigT) - 4 votes were received for BigT's topic about the most popular boy's name in the UK. Less said about this one the better tbh .
Best RCT/ No-Limits creation
Joint winners: BigAl’s No-Limits (2) Nemesis94’s The Smiler (2) Blithering Lodge by DiogoJ42 (2)
Two votes each were received for three of the sub forum's creations. Well done guys!
2014 Meet-up Awards
Meets are always "the best bit" of TowersStreet for me, and there were no shortage of votes for your favourite meetup moments from last year. So without further ado:
Lift Scab
These were varied again, but pipping everyone to the post was Kieron with 4 votes. He might have his own car, but he was still skanking lifts left right and centre in 2014. He'll be owing DanB big time for a while yet!
The Driving School Lift Giver Award
DanB wins the lift give award for 2014. If he's not ferrying the Pound Land lot around, he's donating his car for last year's epic Scandi roadtrip (sorry, being biased there!)
The Simon and Satch Faff Magnet Award
Astrodan came a close second with 3 votes, but this year's winner is the one and only Cheese!
Best Scarefest Costume
Always one to go all out with his costumes, Rob wins the best Scarefest costume award with 5 votes.
Funniest Moment
Last year's endless Scottish HS2 impressions wins the funniest meetup moment of last year with 5 votes. Special shout out to Balsdon's Hair though, which garnered 3 votes .
Best New Meet Member
In a close run contest, Mobius91 comes out on top as the best new meet member with 7 votes. TomB was just behind with 6 votes.
The Sam Beaumont Lateness Award
It was a close run contest this year, but Sammy and Craig (yeah, that's me) have tied with 7 votes each to win the Sam Beaumont lateness award. It seems some of you thought it was appropriate due to the lateness of the member awards to vote for me. Yeah, thanks for thatI hate you all. Sammy on the other hand, has continued his lateness run, presumably because he's too busy pruning that skanky farmer beard of his to bother to be on time for anything.
Biggest Ride Whore
It was a fight to the death between Sam and John for biggest ride whore. Sam has become the master ofannoyance when it comes to anti faff, but it was John who came out on top in 2014. Well done John!
The Ma'Garritas Funniest Drunk Member
More of a rarity to see him sober, JoshT wins the funniest drunk member. If you wish to congratulate Josh, he can be found already queueing outside the Tavern for it opening in March.
#Maaartin cheapskate of the year
Sooooo many cheapskates! The eventual winner though, was lifetime money saver and the original #maaartin - Crofty!
2014 Member Awards
And so we get to the results you've all been waiting for - the member awards themselves!
Best Poster
I'm not sure if everyone quite grasped the term "poster" in the way it was intended! The best 'poster' award goes to 5 people in total. DanB, Kieron, Panda, Craig and Ian all win thanks to their barrage of cheap tat being sent to Diogo during the Diana Troll campaign. I'd like to hope that even after bringing the whole thing to an end, the postman is still in a job despite the massive drop in post he's carrying these days!
The John Wardley Appreciation Society Geekiest Member of the Year Award
As if there was any doubt whatsoever, the clearest winner out of the whole set of awards was for this category. John - you truly are the geekiest member of the year with a massive 17 votes.
Funniest Member
It was a hard fought battle, but the winner of funniest member (I have no idea why) is DiogoJ42. Despite his moaning, complaining and general miserable-old-man syndrome, Diogo came out on top with 5 votes. In second place was Dianafan997 with 3 votes.
Most serious member
Another close one, but coming out first with 6 votes is Rowe. Following closely behind in joint second was Sam and DiogoJ42 with 4 votes each.
Most helpful member
Another clear winner in the awards was Astrodan, who with 12 votes has won Most Helpful Member.
Hottest Male Member
With just one vote separating first and second, Russ walks away with the hottest male member award. In joint second place was Mankey and Ian with 3 votes each!
Hottest Female Member
Lots of votes for many people in this one, but coming out on top with 6 votes was the much missed Tarin Maria, with last year's winner Sazzle in second place with 4 votes.
Cutest Couple
A saga we've all loved following over the course of the 2014 season, Vik and pritchardavid are the winners of cutest couple with 9 votes. Duss (Danny and Russ - awww) came in second with 4 votes.
Campest Member
Judging by most people on meets, everyone should win this one. However, in the end it was a tie with 7 votes a piece to the two members who wouldn't be any camper than they already were even if they minced down Towers Street wearing feather boas and heels. Ian and Sammy, you are 2014's campest members!
The James Award for Biggest Flirt
A joint winner for this one! To (officially) the two biggest flirts of 2014 - Dave and Sam!
The John Wardley Get.a.life award for endless moaning.
Another fight between two people for the Get.a.Life award for endless moaning. Coming a close second was Sam with 6 votes, but the eventual winner was DiogoJ42 with 10 votes. Bah humbug!
Best Contributor
And finally, our best contributor award. Astrodan came a close second with 5 votes. Our winner however, is someone who has worked hard to contribute to both the forum and toward a huge amount of content on our website. Your best contributor is Rob with 10 votes!
And finally an announcement...
As well as Rob winning best contributor, we felt it was high time he deserved some further recognition for working so hard to make TowersStreet what it is today. So we're pleased to announce that yesterday we asked him if he's like a position on the team, and we're happy to say he's accepted.
So, as well congratulating all our winners, please give a huge welcome to Rob who joins the site team from today .
