Seems odd they painted it inside and out last year and they started again this year, when towers bar and grill still looks horrible at the old end!

Anyway the inside looks so much nicer, it's bright, colourful and modern, just what a coffee shop should be really!

I don't know if this has already been mentioned but the pirate show 'Kidnap of Lady Victoria Sponge' is the same as last year which in turn is the same as the year before. So now we'll have had the same show for three years.

During our Q&A at Scarefest with Pete Cliff (guy who runs ents) I asked about the pirate show and he said it was more than likely going to be the same this year for a few reasons, firstly its about the best show they have had out of all the pirate shows. But also the location really isn't great with it, so it takes a lot of time and money to create a new show which doesn't seem worth it for the stage and location it has. So until a new location is found, or the show is scrapped altogether I don't think we will see a big change.

I think they could stretch the show to have a shelf life of 4 or 5 seasons. It's not unusual for theme parks to keep the same show for several seasons, so Towers can easily keep it the same for a little while longer.

I quite like it, more it lunch with a show than just the show itself. I find a line or two changes as the show goes on, which is always fun for us regular views. However the GP usually dont see the show that often to notice it the same every year.

News just in: Towers have confirmed that The Blade will be open on Saturday until further notice.

I heard it should be open till around September??
I'm not 100% sure, but it'd fit in with the timing of a potential planning application for SW8 if it's a coaster using the site of The Blade and (almost certainly) Ripsaw as well.

Thats from someone I know, he did call the Blade reversal at 8 this morning however I was unsure so didnt post anything.

I'm assuming they planned to keep it shut because it was going to go later in the year anyway. With people asking about it, they have decided that they may as well keep it open until work needs to start in that area. I can, however, see them shutting it sooner than later. Its hardly the most popular ride on park!

Just out of interest, what is Alton best year in terms of attendance, I now the recent best is 3.1 million in 2010, does anyone now the numbers from the nineties, I'd imagine they may have been pretty close to that figure if not over 4 million.

I don't think Towers have ever got over 4 million. Pretty sure the highest attendance was one year in the mid-90s though.

:)

I did some research on attendance figures a few years ago. Accurate figures for the 90s are very hard to find. I could only get as far back as 1994. The 3.1 figure for 1994 is not 100% since I found conflicting reports of the figures ranging from 3.1 to 3.6 million, the 3.1 figure seemed to be the most common one found when referencing to 1994 guest figures though.

Figures (in millions):
2013: 2.5
2012: 2.4
2011: 2.7
2010: 3.0
2009: 2.6
2008: 2.5
2007: 2.4
2006: 2.5
2005: 2.5
2004: 2.5
2003: 2.5
2002: 2.5
2001: 2.3
2000: 2.5
1999: 2.65
1998: 2.7
1997: 2.7
1996: 2.7
1995: 2.7
1994: 3.1

I must say I am a little surprised by those numbers, i assumes the park would see attendence at 3 million and more consistently during the 90s, but I guess t he general atmosphere and feel of the park gave the feel that it was better attended.

And another surprise comes from the relatively small differences in the years, even with the years of major rides opening, you would have thought those would have been peak years, with lower figure Inbetween.

Also I'm fairly sure Merlin under report their guest figures, they have no obligation to provide any.

Basically Nemesis and CBeebies brings the crowds. I'm surprised that 2010 was so big, I guess the hype worked for Thirteen then!

Would be good to see those figures with the ride openings alongside for a comparison
