Inexpensive Improvements

What about the queue line shops where you can buy refreshments? Coffees for cold weather, cold drinks and ice creams for hot weather. :p
and then you stop to buy your double choc magnum everyone pushes past you then when you try to get back to your original place in the queue are greeted with many tutting and puffing.o_O

It'll never happen, but while we're on the subject personally I'd consider an inexpensive improvement at any park to be removal of any fastrack or virtual queue system, improvements to ride operations, and a bulk purchase of signs essentially saying "We don't offer fastrack in the interest of fairness, as the reduction in wait time you'd be prepared to pay for would increase the wait time for other riders. To reduce queue times we run every ride efficiently and devote its full capacity to just one queue, which then moves as quickly as possible. We also install rides that we believe are worth waiting for in the first place. You decided to come to our theme park and enjoy our excellent collection of rides today; wait your turn."

Queueline shops can do one too. The slowdown in queue movement that they can cause is sometimes enough to make people behind them who can't see the steady movement on the other side (and maybe even empty section of queue!) decide to give up and leave the queue. The shops should be just to the side of queue entrances, encouraging people to buy before joining.

I always walk past people buying ponchos at the Valhalla shop at BPB. Not my fault you came unprepared :)
I mostly do single rider at AT so waiting for people buying things isn't usually a problem

The one thought I had was a cash only walking shop. The idea is a section next to the queue line with a storage hut with a window display. in front of that is a strip where staff can walk up and down the queue fence. You order something, carry on along with the queue and the staff member comes to you with the item, you pay in cash and carry on your way without holding up the queue.
Best of both worlds :D

There are two things that put me of buying things in queue lines . The fact that it's too overpriced (but it's a theme park, what can you expect) and that you lose your place in line, which means you need to try to merge with the queue again which can be hard.

Most times I've been people wait for those being served at the shop and so they don't usually lose there spot. (Us British, we're so polite) I, however, am a lot less patient. :p

reduction in the amount of tat and arcade machines would be a good place to start. Cleaning the monuments in the gardens, being greeted with a pagoda fountain overgrown with moss, in a green pond is not a good photo or impression of the place. renewing of the frogs at the front gate they look so old paint them or something. cleaning the monorail and maintenance of the train removing the tatty labels on the monorail and repainting it so it dose not look worn out how about just playing in the hall of the mountain king over the tanoy instead of cheesy cringe worthy garbage, something more imaginative in the dark forest audio, fix the effects around the hotel and improve the timing on the alton towers lifts sound effects plus make it louder and more dramatic, give something to the staff promotion courses something to get them invested in the place and bring up staff morale. make better use of the gardens serve some refreshments so people will relax and enjoy them more take some of the pressure of the rides.
