Phantasialand: General Discussion

This ride looks visually stunning yet is quite a way of from opening. I think a visit to Phantasialand next year will have to be in the cards (not to mention it's a park I've always wanted to visit).

I make no apologies for posting another photo of this stunning ride:

The thing with Intamin is, if they do get it right, they get it really right! My personal top 5 are all Intamin, and I've ridden a fair few coasters. Admittedly they are just as likely to get it wrong, but this certainly has TONS of potential. My main worry is that it might end up somewhat toned down to cater to the family market of Phantasialand, and be more Cheetah Huntish than Maverick like. Saying that, this is the most excited I've been for a new European coaster for a long time!

It has the potential to be, but given it's Intamin, most probably not!

Many of the top rated coasters around the world are built by Intamin; El Toro, EGF, I305, Maverick and Skyrush to name but a few! Given it's Intamin it has every chance to be one of the best in Europe at the very least. Yes they get things wrong a fair amount but they also make some of the very best coasters!

This basically. It all depends on what exactly Phantasialand have asked Intamin for. If they want all out thrill then they could be on to a reall winner in terms of it being a world class coaster. Of course there is a chance that it will be slightly more family friendly to fit the overall market of the park; I'm sure this would still result in a very good coaster but it would likely lack that edge we know Intamin can provide.

Regardless it is going to be stunning. I also pray it has lap bars!

:)

BECAUSE it`s Intamin there`s a chance this will be outstanding.

And looking at the layout...and the bankings..AND the promised speed...AND the twistyness...AND the fact, that it will be full of near misses...noone should worry about this having too little thrill factor ! Come on ! ;)

Ah, Goerge mate. You forget how lucky you are to live in Germany. British coaster enthusiasts have got used to setting our expectations very low. ;)

I said to Rowe while we were there on Tuesday that it could become a candidate for the best coaster in Europe. Even if it turns out not to be I'm pretty sure it'll be good, as Phantasialand is a park which has a pretty good track record for its most recent installations. There aren't many other parks that give me the same confidence in expecting a quality end product when they announce something!

Look at that helix on the right. That big twisty Rita thing in the middle that people moan about on EGF. The overbank on the left. It looks very good, but this is nowhere near 'best coaster in the world' territory guys.

The twisty Rita-equse airtime hill is arguably the best bit of EGF though..? The problem is all the rather bland overbanks in the middle of the layout, which it appears there will be a few of on this thing.

This could be a great ride, but I'm not going to get swept along by the hype before they've even finished building it. A lot will depend on the speed it runs at, and whether or not Intamin screw it up with terrible trains/restraints as they do depressingly often.

Odd, I've always thought it to be one of the worst parts of EGF, along with the overbanks!

There's not anywhere near enough airtime hills and it's not big enough to be a potential world's best. We're talking Maverick here, we're talking El Toro and Skyrush.

Just sayin' because overhype will lead to inevitable disappointment!

Yes, Sam, it`s good not to overhype.

In the end it all comes down to personal preferences...but in my opinion it absolutely HAS the potential to be a worlds best. I don`t get the comparison with Maverick or Skyrush. This thing will be longer (!), will have about the same speed, it has extensive theming as a huge bonus, some great looking twists, it has two (!) launches, it HAS airtime hills (do you need many to be the best ?) ...and I guess we have to wait and see what will happen ("effects") in the inside sections !

Just look at this :

See a lot of that video looks to be a bit repetitive throughout the ride. But you can't take a NL recreation and know how the ride will feel.

I think this has potential, but it will depend on its speed and whether Intamin cock it up or not.

The one thing this ride has that those mentioned above don't is an incredible theme. This is one of those rare coasters that both the layout and surroundings look impressive. For me that'll make a huge difference.

Think Blue Fire vs. one of its unthemed clones. The original obviously offers a way more interesting experience.

Glad I'm not the only one. Two thirds of the way in to that vid I was starting to think, "this is getting a bit samey".

Of course, as you say, No Limits gives no indication of the forces you will feel on the ride. But I can't help feeling a couple of inversions - just to break things up - wouldn't go amiss.

You do still need a cracking coaster though, black mamba is pretty but I'm not alone in finding it a bit mediocre as a coaster.
