For some reason this appears tp be a popular event with the Scouts

Apart form other things I am also involed with Scouting as a leader, so when the opportunity to camp at Alton towers came round I deceided to see if there was any interest, and there was.
Its now established itself as an (almost ) anual camp/trip for us, and will do so for as long as interest reamins ( doesnt show any signs of waning so far)
The weekend will pan out as follows:
Arrive t the theme park, just after closing and enter via a back service entrance
Set up tents on the lawn, and then an evening meal in the hospitality suite, next to sonic spinball
then up to the main entrance and on a bus to splash landings, Two hours in the waterpark.
Back to a dark and in some places pitch black (epeccialy path between Cbeebies/sonic spinball campsite) then a bit of supper in the hospitality suite.
Next morning, tents down, site clear by 8am, breakfast then early ride time and then all day n the theme park.

And thats the plan for thee weekend.

quick question any one know of somewhere to et some decent food/meal more than burgers/pizza/chips/chicken?

Sounds like a really good trip, hope you all enjoy yourselves!

Food offering is limited at Towers this year, however you can get sausage rolls and a variety of pasties at the outlets next to the Courtyard Tavern in Mutiny Bay, or if you're willing to take the monorail back to the hotels in the afternoon for some food, the Crooked Spoon restaurant in the Enchanted Village offers a quiet, laid-back atmosphere with lunch-time menu including the likes of hot dog and panini meals.

If you're happy to spend a bit more money, then the Rollercoaster Restaurant in Forbidden Valley has a lot of different options on offer, but you will need to book in advance as it is regularly full in there.

:)

Everything going well so far, managed to set up the tents and dodge the worst of the rain, been to splash landings, and were now all back inside the main theme park.
Appart from the hospitality suite by spinball towers street and beyond are pitch black, there's a few lights on by the towers, but it's cant see your hands in front of your face dark.

Its surprising how peaceful this place is when it's not open to the public, no road noise, no traffic, no aircraft noise, no ride noise, just still and peaceful apart from a few scouts and the odd inquisitive duck.

Up at 7am tommorow, and not long after that this place will come alive.

A closed theme park is always a creepy place. I camped at Oakwood years ago with the ECC. Deliciously dark and creepy wandering through the park at night! :D

And Booked in yet again, for another night camping on the lawns between the bottom of towers street and the lake.
From what i understand the side/service road entrance that's usually used to go into Alton towers between the Sealife Aquarium and the main Katanga canyon path when were camping in the park is being used as the site entrance is being used as the site road/main access for the SW8 building site, so depending upon the set up we may have to go through part of a building site.

Is this event specific to your Scout group or is it possible for any scout group to arrange?

The two days you describe sound brilliant and in a unique setting for a camp!

This year you may go in via the access gate by games shed and golf shoot.

Just had the instructions through and entry into the park will be via the "3D gates" or the steel gates on the access road that comes out by the aquarium and katanga canyon path - the 3D cinema being previously housed in the building currently used as the aquarium.

if this works you should see a few night time shots taken about 11pm at an almost deserted alton towers
