Hex - haunted?

Many people have said stones were thrown at them in the queue and people at the back of the videoscreen room have said they feel strange.

There was obviously the most haunted episode, but that was fake. (Conducted a ghost test in vault (not even part of the real towers). But anyway, share your thoughts and experiences below!

Well, this is interesting because..... who remembers the episode's of Park Life which were on telly?

There was a bit in one of those episodes about the shop which was once where Hex stood and how the staff would feel a presence in there , or had seen things when closing up. So things like this may make sense.

Towers is bound to be haunted - and I believe Merlin are currently in talks with the spooks to agree contracts with them for this years Scarefest as it would save a fortune on makeup.

If you believe in anything at all paranormal I imagine the house is a good candidate for you to find something along those lines. It's big, dark and has a rich history.

I personally don't either, just wondering about other people's thoughts, I think they may have effects at the back of the video room to simulate a presence.

I was always skeptical of things like this until something really changed my mind when I was a teen. When I lived at home with the parents, I think it was when I was about 13/14 years old, I woke up one night, dunno what time, but it was black in the room, and was aware of "someone" in my room. Now, we always joked about someone else being the house as my mum's dad died in the room below mine from a heart attack at a young age. I never got to meet him as I was born afterwards.

Anyway, I sat up and my eyes were drawn to the corner of my bedroom, in which I saw a man, in a light grey outline, stood there looking at me. I could see from his waist upwards, in perfect detail, that he had a white shirt on, top button undone, a waist coat, sort of stubble on his face and a flat cap. The detailing was incredible, apart from the eyes,I could tell he was looking at me, but I couldnt see his eyeballs. His hands were crossed down by his trouser line, as if in peace. I looked at him for a while, and went back to sleep!! I didnt feel afraid, nothing, just calm.

Next morning waking up I spoke to my mum and she went quiet and went to get a photo I had never seen. It was him, in the photo, picture perfect, she said he always wore those clothes. Anyway - I decided to go and see a medium, one who was highly regarded in our village at the time. I went there determined to not give anything away, not to give much in the way of descriptions, answers to questions etc and to let him tell me things.....

It was amazing, he brought this man into the room, and he said to me that he had been taking great pride in watching me grow up. He also brought into the room a woman, and as she walked in he started sniffing the air and said "ooh, I can smell something like TCP". The woman was wearing a plain printed dress and white cardigan. My dads mother who passed away in the back of an ambulance some years earlier always dressed like this, and always used TCP. Infact, it would be the first thing I would pick up on when I went into their house, as she would clean with it.

Not only that, but he then went on to describe how she passed away in the back of the ambulance, what she saw, etc.




..... so read into that as you will, but that totally changed my view on things like this. The medium told me other stuff too which was so specific and true, about stuff that had happened in the past and stuff which was about to happen (which also came true), that there was no way whatsoever he could have known.

So are there spirits in Towers - given the age of the place and its history, I would say 110% yes.

The Octagon is a real part of the Towers, it was the connecting room between the grand entrance & galleries and the conservatory walk into the main Towers area.

I have also heard lots of ghost stories about Hex - I don't believe that it's possible, but then how do you explain some of them? That's why it's fun

We have a house down the road that has teddy bears tied to the balcony, if they get removed (like the new owners did when they moved in, not believing the myth) then the resident spirit gets very angry. I'm open minded and even more so since our son woke us up at 4am once (he was 3) to inform us Nanny Anne was ill and needed our help, we dismissed him as having a bad dream and sent him back to bed.

Next morning we got a call from her brother to say she'd been taken ill during the night and rushed into hospital, she died a few days later. He also got really upset during the night that my mum died too.

Alton Towers looks like a typical haunted ruin and in regards to this I'm very interested in its past and the lore surrounding it. Paranormal stories interest me in old stately homes and ruins.

@GaryH , you may well want to tell the medium in your village to contact the James Randi foundation as they have a $1million dollar prize available for anyone who can prove that the paranormal exists. With just a few scientific tests put in place, they will win the prize. Just think of the charities that they could help with $1million dollars.

Of course in over 20 years of accepting claims, no person has ever beaten the scientific tests put in place by the foundation, but who knows the medium you saw may just be the one !!!

My opinion, if Hex is haunted, where is the proof? Saying that if anywhere is haunted, where is the proof?

He died a few years ago unfortunately. I know a few people who went to see him and the stuff he came out with so specific and true it was just impossible for him to know otherwise as myself and the others I spoke to gave no clues, or details on anything that was said.

I guess until something like this happens to you (or anyone else), then you will always remain skeptical, which is perfectly fine

Going off topic slightly and from my experience of this, my mother in law is a "medium" and when you see her in action and analyse it, its all hot and cold reading and "Barnum" statements. As humans we remember the hits and forget about all the stuff what was said which are misses. You will be surprised what mediums can get from these methods above.

I myself am not a medium, but I have actually used all these techniques to actually tell information to people that I should never know. So if I was "reading" an older person, chances are that there grandparents would have passed and probably their parents, so you start there, look at body language and facial expressions and move on. The you look at statistics about how most people pass and what symptoms are. Before you know it, you have given a great reading without knowing anything By the way just to clarify, on these occasions I have told the person involved afterwards that it was all a trick and they are gobsmacked.

Just my opinion and experience by the way

It's not for me to say whether you should believe in ghost or not.

I'm a retired Magician and I've was a professional magician for over 25 years. Nothing that I did was real, nor did I ever claim to be a real magician, it was all tricks in the name of entertainment. However I have people who would believe that what I did was for real (magic tricks and mind reading). Even though I tired to explain that what I did was all tricks, they still would not accept that what I did was all tricks. Just because you can't explain how something works, doesn't mean that it's real.

A brilliant magician who know's every trick in the book that debunk a lot of psychics, faith healers and anyone who claimed to have supernatural powers. If these people were real, why don't they go knocking on his door claiming the $1 million dollars prize?

Back in 2012 the most haunted Derek Achorah was exposed as a fake when they made up a fake ghost

Back on topic, is Hex haunted? In my own opinion, "No" it's just the atmosphere of an old building and lower temperatures playing tricks on the mind

I have been on Hex more times than I care to admit and have never experienced anything other than a heavily repetitive, low quality video that hasn't changed since the ride opened.

As I have a keen interest in both the towers and the paranormal I have always been intrigued to take part in one of the ghost hunts ran at Alton Towers throughout the year, just to see exactly where you are taken in the grounds. Unfortunately I am reluctant to spend ridiculous amounts of money, when in all truth the likelihood of witnessing anything is second to none. I begrudge paying £80 a pop to be read a few fictional ghost stories.

Until I was about 19 (and for all those decades before I was born) my family owned Alton Towers. My Great Grandparents lived there since the 1920's and my grandmother still lived there until seven years ago. I therefore spent a great deal of my childhood (and early adulthood) in Europe's most celebrated theme park. But the Alton Towers that everyone else knew was only part of what I knew. To me, it was a family estate and somewhere I would spend a lot of time at during the off-season. Every Christmas Day, for example, we would have our family lunch at the Towers and then embark on a magical wintry walk around the entire 800 acre estate. These walks were where my granny and grandpa would tell me fascinating stories about things that had happened during their greatest adventure - restoring the magnificent gardens to their former glory and running the estate as a visitor attraction.

Apart from the crypt under the chapel where the most spectacular model railway I've ever seen was housed (I had a mini version of it at home built by some of the same designers and engineers), the original Great Hall was the only part of Alton Towers that was regularly occupied and, by day, it was a veritable hive of activity.

During the 1960's and 1970's my otherwise sane and somewhat sceptical family witnessed regular paranormal activity in the gift shop. With their own eyes. In fact, the poltergeist (which they believed to be a woman, as staff claimed to have seen her) became so active that my family went to great lengths to investigate. From sealing doors and windows to sleeping in the Towers themselves and even bringing specialist paranormal investigators up from London, they really tried to get to the bottom of it, but they never officially did...

It all started fairly gently, with granny noticing a line of ducks which she could have sworn were facing one way when she priced up the night before but we're then facing the other. She brushed it off but then it happened again. And again. And then it got scary.

I remain sceptical and open minded. I haven't had any supernatural experiences and I don't think I ever will unfortunately. However, I would love to have such a profound experience that it would remove all doubt from my mind. At the same time, I hope it wouldn't be a terrifying experience!
