I noticed in the SW8 thread that someone said that the SW9 brief had already been submitted. So, I know it's very early when SW8 hasn't even finished construction yet, but here goes. So what do you guys think SW9 should or will be? I personally think some sort of water ride would be nice. Like maybe a Chiapas-style log flume. Or maybe a Mack Water Coaster. With a Mack Water Coaster, they could still make SW9 a coaster like all the others have been, but it would give them another water ride. I'm sure if they wanted them to, Mack would even chuck a launch in so that Merlin could market it as "The UK's first launched water coaster" Or, they could even chuck an inversion in if they wanted to be really radical. Merlin could market it as "The world's first launched inverting water coaster". We all know how Merlin like their world's firsts, don't we? ;) Another question is where is it going to go? Other than CCL, I'm not really sure where they could put a large water ride like I'm speculating. A lot of you mention the Galactica car park, but I'm not sure how they could link that with Forbidden Valley. I'm thinking CCL because they could put it either in the Charlie building or on the fabled Coaster Corner. Although CCL is rumoured to be getting rethemed for 2019 to a DreamWorks IP, so I'm not sure at all. So, in conclusion, here are my current SW9 ideas:
Ride type: Mack Water Coaster
Area: Cloud Cuckoo Land
USP: World's first launched inverting water coaster
Theme: Honestly not sure

So, what do you guys think SW9 will be?

I think we might get a re-working of Charlie possibly with a flume drop added first. So not a secret weapon. SW9 will probably be a Coaster on the Car Park unless they do build into the woods near Gloomy Woods. The broomstick Coaster would still be a great addition.

My preference though would for them to build a building next to Cuckoo Land theatre on the old coaster corner and do a proper dark ride. (As well as re-opening something in the Charlie/toyland building). More indoor attractions and more dark rides is what they really need, and a world class dark ride (not a silly VR experience) could still be a SW.

I'm hoping for a B&M wing coaster. Either that, a Mack multi-launch/Intamin blitz or a Mack water coaster. Where though, that is the question.

Not a fan of them wasting a high investment year building an expensive water ride that it's really only acceptable to ride for a few weeks a year. The park needs either a big dark ride or another large (long) coaster - hopefully either in the CATCF building or if the latter, the Air car park. And if the coaster option then hopefully the long awaited B&M 4D!

I am fairly confident it'll be a water ride - 90% indoor and will have 'the worlds highest water drop'

Sell Rita, build a multi-launch, multi-inversion cross valley RMC.

Would be easy to market as the world's fastest wooden coaster, worlds tallest wooden coaster drop, worlds first multi launch woodie.

It'll never happen but I can dream!

The last thing they should do is build another coaster anytime soon.

Major water ride without a doubt. Something like Tayto Park's which only cost around £7 million - it is also the most popular ride there. Water rides are always a family favourite and people ride them whenever so there is absolutely no excuse for Alton not to get one.

Dark Rides - New one in the Charlie building, refurb and reopen Sub Terra (maybe even retheme and open as a new ride) and they need to sort out Duel as it is just god awful.
In a perfect world I'd like to see an entirely new dark ride built as well but that's definitely not happening. (a screen based interactive one so Duel could have the guns removed)

Flat rides: a couple for thrill seekers and a couple family ones - as small spread out investments would make sense.

Of course inbetween perhaps as part of reworking CCL maybe the addition of a small family coaster. Not to expensive (Vekoma SFC or boomerang)

Then and only then should they add another big coaster (SW9).
The place feels like a coaster park. There's very little on offer other than coasters. They need to vary the line up and make the offering more balanced.

I can confirm it will be themed to the hit song "Electric Avenue" by Eddy Grant

Maybe they could skip a sw but instead redo ccl and add some flats around the park for the next high investment year instead?!

Or re-do CCL in one medium year (including replacing Charlie) and add some flats in another low year(s). Remember Charlie wasn't an SW, nor was Hex, Ripsaw, Mutiny Bay, Sub-Terra or CBeebies. It should be possible to do those in the low/medium years and add a rollercoaster or big water ride as an SW.

The issue is that as a group Merlin keep going after silly IP or "experiances" rather than good solid flat rides. I'm a Celeb at Thorpe could have been a decent flat ride instead of an experiance with no longevity.

That sort of coaster should really be limited to smaller parks - the whole style of it just reeks of a cheaper, inferior version of iSpeed.
The way that this one has been done does, but just look at Lech Coaster, that ride looks world class and has had rave reviews.

I could see SW9 being a Mack water coaster, It could have a dark ride section and an outdoor section, Towers shouod have their own version of something to compete with Valhalla, Stormforce 10 and Tidal Wave. Possibly on the Air Carpark.

Or I'd like to see a replacement for Rita like and Intamin Blitz, Mack Multi Launch or Vekoma Firestorm!

Or they could kill two birds with one stone and build a launched water coaster!
