https://t.co/LuTjtRlEIb (just a link to a sky news article regarding wickerman)

I wonder what the gp will think about the worlds first element? It is terrible but I'm still looking forwards to this I think the theming may be pretty good :)

Ignoring the World's First claim it could potentially be a very good idea. If that Wicker man is properly on fire ridding through it will be quite the experience! I love the finale of Valhalla.

However I've ridden Wodan multiple times and never seen the Fire Wolves working. If the Mack family struggle to keep a simple fire effect working I fail to see how this will last beyond a few seasons.

I quite like the artwork.

Regarding the fire claim. Have we established what might be in the pre-show building? Maybe we could see something similar to the mummy? I mean those canisters that have been installed in the coach park seem pretty permanent and I seem to recall the Wicker structure having it's own separate canisters installed underground.

The world's first is extremely tedious, but I would imagine it revolves around the word 'fuse' more than anything else. The definition of fuse is to "join or blend to form a single entity". This will all be linked to the Wicker Man theming structure and it will be good to see how they pull it off.

Also, the theme idea looks cool but I actually think it is quite a lazy idea from the not very creative folk at Merlin. It is basically a re-hash of The Smiler's theme; forget your current way of life, join our new cult, become a better person etc. It looks very different on the face of it but the message is very similar.

None the less I am really looking forward to opening day! I do think it will be a pretty good coaster, and I do think it will be very visually impressive.

:)

Just seen someone on Twitter say it's in 'poor taste' to have something like Wicker Man not long after the Grenfell disaster. :banghead:
They're annoying all the right idiots this morning. Just waiting on Kay Burley, to see if she can top her claims from last year that an Oblivion car was stuck hovering 115ft above the track.

Haven’t commented on here in ages (maybe even years and even then I wasn’t a huge contributor!) but I saw the announcement on Twitter and I’m a bit bored with how AT have gone with ANOTHER dark theme... why can’t rollercoasters just be fun and exciting for good reasons, instead of dark/sinister/slightly scary reasons?

And this worlds first... why do they bother? I really don’t know why they need a worlds first for everything, it just feels like they’re clutching straws with it. I guess that’s what the SW banner must mean these days though.

I haven’t rtft so I’m sorry if you’ve gone over this already, but it really does get on my wick(erman?)

I would have rather seen them milk the 'first wooden coaster in the UK in 21 years'. The "world's first" is a load of rubbish as usual. Hopefully they keep these fire effects working since it is the USP they're advertising...

Love the visual artwork mind.

Just like the VR was Galactica's USP, and that's only been up and running for about 50% of the time that the ride has been open. They got pelted on social media over that. People were travelling from all over the world to experience "rlthe world's first rollercoaster fully dedicated to VR" and when they got there it was simply Air with a wig on.

A giant flaming man in the middle of the Towers? How very Carry On...

The barrel has been scraped so far they're literally now throwing dirt on things, Galatica was bad, this is pathetic... Which is a shame because the promo art is fantastic, and shows what good some intelligent design decisions (i.e. get someone good to do it) does...

Wicker Man? World's first something-something-something with fire?
giphy.gif

Sheesh...stupid name, at least Galatica sounded actually cool and original. And you gotta love some of the cynical and meh responses to this, how we'd all love to be a fly on the wall when they were planning all this.

Give her time.
Or the Mail questioning the safety of a wooden structure with fire effects?

Didn't my joke about wondering how long it would be before someone got offended on Grenfell's behalf when this was announced get deleted by admin for being insensitive? Oh well people are so predictable.

Anybody who has ever tried to start a camp fire knows how difficult it is to set fire to big lumps of wood, that's why kindling exists lol.

Someone stop the world, I want to get off now.

How is Galactica any more original than Wicker Man as a name?

The chosen ones can climb on-board the Beornen’s works train passing further into their secretive world, splintering around a labyrinth of twisted track. The burning embers light the path as the train hurtles towards the six-storey high flaming effigy. Speeding towards the Wicker Man, he spectacularly ignites into flames as the train bursts through his chest three times.
Could be pretty impressive if there was lights/smoke in the train which make it look as though it gets 'set alight' in the bit under the station, prior to the lift hill.
