I can name at least 2 things that are safe....

Fountains
Ice Arena
Brilliant! :tearsofjoy:

I think we can infer from the statement BPB released about Wild Mouse that going forward, they will tear down anything regardless of popularity, historical status and rarity if they think it's in the name of "progress."

To me, losing what makes the park special in favour of generic rides which can be found anywhere doesn't constitute progress, but that's just my opinion.

Impossible is a steaming, turgid pile of bison dung !
Although I agree with this I have more of a soft spot for the old haunted swing than any of the other rides round there. It was the first ride I ever went on at PB and I used to love the old "Hurry, hurry, hurry step inside and review the gravity of the situation. You'll find your whole world in a spin when you step inside the Haunted Swing" or words to that effect!

I would imagine that when that day comes Alton Towers will give the old girl the send off she deserves.
No-one expects rides to last forever but the way this was destroyed with no warning came as a shock to all of us.
You’re making the assumption that the ride was able to operate for some kind of farewell ceremony - it would have needed a reasonable amount of attention and a new ADIPS cert. If it wasn’t going to operate, us all standing there linking arms whistling Kumbyah while the wrecking ball knocked it down sounds like a thoroughly depressing afternoon.

Plus, some wannabe hero would have climbed it with a passive aggressive banner trying to ‘save’ it.

Maybe it's time to speak to English Heritage and try to get Nemmie listed while she's still safe, insurable and profitable?
I hope I'm long gone when she is removed!
Overlooking the use of female pronouns for a roller coaster, you make my point for me... when rides aren’t ‘safe, insurable and profitable’ they should be torn down and replaced or chucked on a flight to Switzerland.

I can't imagine how many pages of anger will arise if Merlin ever remove Nemmie!

Perhaps in the year 2053, Nemesis will be demolished without warning because it has exceeded its usefulness, is costing too much money to maintain & insure, and Merlin didn't want any fanfare about it closing. Rob and Shakey will furiously wave their Zimmerframes in the air with apoplectic rage and vow never to give Merlin one penny ever again. I will then come on here and post classic lines such as "It wasn't popular with the general public anyway, only with enthusiasts. . . I can't believe you all expected it to keep going so long. . . Its time for progress, bury the past and move on", then sit back and wait for a tirade of abuse from Nemmie fanboys.

Could you please clarify what exactly Trauma Towers actually was?
Just adding to what others have said, used to be The Haunted Hotel in the 80s- a much better version inside with totally bizarre scenes. When it was turned into Trauma Towers it did have the tagada ending added, but most the gags just became generic halloweeny props you could get anywhere else, so not really a big loss to lose that version.

Apparently was closed because the facade was becoming rotten with the new fountains out front? if it was dead space then removing it was probably the right decision for Trauma Towers.

In a country that doesn't seem to like building proper dark rides anymore it would be a crying shame to lose more without a modern replacement.

The Merlin parks for sure but I think PB may still be Interested in dark rides.
But thats just my opintion.

IMO when PB turned the goldmine into W&G I though it was prity good for IP Dark ride.

I firmly believe that nothing in the park is safe now, listed or not.

A bit of a cynical out look, The only classics that have been removed are ones that ether did't have enought people riding them (Whip/ Turtal Chase and Vikingar) or where knakred/ at the end of there lives(I.E Loggie/ Blackhole/ tagada and crazy dasys)
In the case the Mouse mondern regulations/ insurance premiums cocking things up for PB.

To added to that Nick thompson said in this podcast interview that and I qoute( we Know witch nostalgic rides to keep now and where going to keep forever Hopefully!)

And you know what I believe him!

If boats can be female, so can coasters.
Nemesis is definitely female and she's a real beatch!

I will do my best to give Merlin and b.p.b. my last pennies if at all possible.
And one of the reasons for coming on here is to keep the younger generation sweet for when I need pushing round the beach in my old age.

Yes. I remember one seen with a fat woman breast feeding and the caption below the scene said something like "Look at the baby boy, he's blowing that woman up!"

I am honesty not making this up!

Not sure I could bear the loss of JR’s voice berating you to “Please walk. Do not run.” in the mirror maze, if Impossible closed.
Wasn’t there an app with announcements from JR and Amanda with her famous catchphrase “those curtains need cleaning”

I don't think people are saying it should have been left standing with no comment, but that it should have been closed, with the park making a big deal about it. Flowers, pictures, memories from old staff, or someone connected to the construction, just some recognition of its history and importance in both the park and the industry. Look at the funeral Cedar Point gave Mean Streak before its demolition.

This just feels like they're embarrassed with the whole thing.

I do get the feeling they can't win when it comes to coaster forums, if the Mouse was closed all season 'SBNO' with no news about it either way, people would be saying it should be removed to make way for something new.

Coaster enthusiasm is a bit strange at times (I include myself in that!).

Well it was closed for the last 3 months of the season with no news about it either way (unless you count the misleading ‘closed for maintenance’ as news, and none of us were saying it should be removed to make way for something new.

I just think it’s a shame that such drastic action was taken. As Shakey said, even it was left SBNO for a year, there would have been some hope for it. I’d rather see a dormant Wild Mouse this season than a row of plant pots !
