John Wardley gave The Sun this,

Commenting on the launch, John Wardley – the rollercoaster developer behind rides like Nemesis, Oblivion and The Smiler said: “What Alton Towers have done is created a fabulous, fast-paced, smooth, thrilling, exhilarating ride which is beautifully and imaginatively presented to a standard far higher than probably any other woodie in the world.”

Quite a turnaround considering his earlier comments.

Any mention of The Smiler crash in that Sun article? Towers are friends with the press again now then
To be honest I don't think a POV will do Wickerman any favours,

Looks like you were right. :p

Advert (if thats what it is) looks great i'd like at least one shot of the coaster. Maybe an extreme closeup of the track with the wheels just flying past on a banking section. Also the actual footage of WM seems really badly lit considering the lovely night time shots we saw a few weeks back.

I don't think that the video posted earlier is the official ad, which I imagine will be a lot more on the nose in the "It's a rollercoaster!" stakes.

I've not been on it, and am well aware that POV's give little to no idea of how a coaster rides, but it looks like the Wicker Man structure offers very little to enhance the ride itself, beyond the near miss feeling any woodie gives as it traverses through itself? Does the 'fire effect' add anything to the experience? No one seems to react to it, and it looks in the reverse like the effects trigger after the train passes through rather than as it approaches in any way which would enhance the experience for riders.

Well Towers may not be happy about the fast-forwarding on that corner, but I'm not happy that another set of knees mysteriously appears next to her in the POV shots.

Speeding up footage... multiple takes.... everyone's exclusive.. We're all being lied to here. :p

To be fair, the ride is meant to be as much a spectacle off ride (in fact, probably more so) than on ride.

Rather like a seriously glammed-up Ripsaw.

I'm sure that heart-line roll at 38 seconds wasn't in the plans. It looks strangely like Colossus!

Just thinking back to the videos last week, one of them showed the lift chain passing over the queue-line. it looked very exposed and quite accessible. Wondering if this might be covered up with something.

If that’s the advert then ts a bit meh....

It really doesn’t capture my imagination so Joe Public probably won’t be that bothered either

Odd-there recent history of tv adverts have been great

Yes . The shoulder flames trigger just as the train is approaching so you see them as you're going into it at the highest point. I don't think anyone reacted because we'd done the ride at least 5 times before we filmed the POV videos.

I think it adds plenty - it's part of the story, it's visually extremely impressive, and the flames (both real and fake) work well. The smoke and mist effects change how the ride looks too depending on the way the wind moves it.

‘Daddy’ MP ;)

That's not even a thing? Try harder.

I'm going to be so annoyed if this forecast cold weather and snow affects park opening this weekend. The feels like temperature on Saturday is set to be -7 !!!! Grrr
