West Midlands Safari Park: General Discussion

Oh my life, what a stupid person (I'm being polite since this isn't the Tavern).

We are thinking of going there during the Summer, is it any good? The giraffes at Longleat were seriously unsociable when we went lol.

I recommend it. There is lots to do
Safari
Land of the living dinosaur
Ice age
Amusement park
Aquarium/Insedts
Repripe House
Lemur Walk
African Village

I've not been for a good few years, but going on my last visit a good 10 years ago, then yes. I don't know about now, but back then, you get a free return ticket for any day during the season, you can purchase food for the animals which are all friendly and will put their heads into your car to feed. If you don't want them in your car, then close the window up before the animals put their heads through your window and not afterwards as in the above link.

They also have fairground rides, nothing major, but still a great day out, you will enjoy, I do highly recommend going.

If you love giraffes, then perhaps you may also consider visiting Colchester zoo, they do a public Giraffe and Elephant feed (at set times, so check the map for times) where you get to hand feed them at no extra cost.

i work at the park, weve been told unofficially the hotel and waterpark is no longer going ahead due the drop out of sponsors and complications with the highways due the addition of a new junction to the round about (more concerned about traffic). Whether this means its scrapped for good or just shelved it remains unknown. No work has begun on the hotel despite having the planning permission to do so years ago :(

Sad news.

I understand the old Wyre Forest Glades swimming pool (which had several flumes and rapids) also closed down a few years back and the council were expecting the waterpark at the safari park to fill the gap for a leisure pool in Kidderminster, so the council only built a standard lanes pool.

The West Midland Safari Park was one of the last UK attractions to run their games and arcades in house. One of the first moves after getting taken over by the Looping Group has been to outsource the games division to HB Leisure, who already run pretty much every other UK theme park.

I’m not sure whether this will make any difference from a guest experience perspective, and I don’t personally bother with the games and arcades when I visit a park. Does this suggest that the West Midland Safari Park will get homogenised into the Looping Group’s way of doing things? Probably. Not a major issue, but it feels like a slight shame.

WMSP have applied for planning permission to Wyre Forest Planning, to develop a range of new animal enclosures, which will include the development of 8 'Holiday Lodges' in-cooperated into the main animal Safari. Plans online at the moment don't showcase anything design wise, more just the proposed locations.

Appears that the previously rumored and pre-planned Hotel & Waterpark has been put heavily on the back foot, and I very much doubt it will be developed after years of decreasing motivation by the previous owners surrounding the project.

I think this proposal of 8 lodges might work quite well, and will ultimately provide a great test to see if there is a market and wider appeal for any sort of accommodation at the park.

Sounds like a similar set up to Port Lympne whose accommodation I think get used mostly for the lucrative wedding market. Not a bad way to go.
