Unpopular Opinions: Theme Park Edition

- Derren Brown's Ghost Trains is one of the worst ideas and biggest wastes of money in the UK industry.
I'd say this is quite a popular opinion with the public and many enthusiasts too. Not so much the idea of the ride/illusion, which I think had the potential to be ingenious, just was terribly pulled off and the whole opportunity missed. The resulting ride was pointless and very self indulgent.

I strongly believe had a different approach been taken (and preferably not with Derren Brown, but still that Victorian illusion theme) it would be incredible fun!

Unpopular opinion of mine – it's possible to have much more fun at "tacky" Blackpool Pleasure Beach than it is at "clean cut" Merlin parks today. And I didn't even expect to like Blackpool all that much. It's an absolute blast and I love Big One too in all its technical 'badness' as a coaster.

Also, Bubbleworks should have shut the moment it re-opened with the Imperial Leather retheme in 2006. All the colour and fun of the ride had been stripped to a boring, corporate and very dated feeling attraction, which was not what the original ride was all about at all.

Gruffalo, though very sparse and not nearly as unique or broadly appealing as Prof Burp's, is a very good replacement to the 2006 version. I get that some people still enjoyed it for what was after that. But anyone going around saying "RIP Bubbleworks" in 2016 or paying £1000s for a plastic Imperial Leather sign either didn't go on the original or was totally deluded, haha.

I for one was actually glad to see the Imperial Leather version go. Anyone has ridden both will know the experience between that and the original is almost night and day. Best yet it didn't outlast the Professor Burp version either!

Isn't Colossus meant to be better these days though? I know it was awful when I last rode it (five years ago) but lately I've heard people saying it's not too bad.

That's only half wrong. My son hates slow inversions but the smooth twists of colossus won him over.

I’m glad I’m not the only one. I’ve read/heard all the horror stories about it even my non enthusiast workmate warned me it was a headbanger.
I’ve banged my head more on nemesis than I did on colossus.

It definitely gave my ears a bashing but no more than Nemmie. It's a good ride pretty intense but decently long. What's not to love?

What changed though?? It is what it is . Nemmie is fierce and that's why we love it. The last person I took for a first ride on Nemmie and smiler thought The Smiler was the smoother of the two .

They put on some new wheels, made it pretty smooth compared to what it was. Only major head bashing is around the cobra roll if you sit limp.

Fuga Da Atlantide rarely gets any coverage despite being a decent ride and amazingly themed. I still think it's one of the best themed Merlin rides.

Hollywood RRR at Universal Florida is one of the most mediocre ride experiences of all time. Totally inoffensive, yet also totally without merit.
