Things the gp say that annoy you?

Did anybody say that? I think you could post things enthusiasts have said and it'd still be 'on-topic'

It is implied strongly, otherwise you wouldn’t apply a label. You would just say “things people say that annoy you”

I think that some enthusiasts (and this is not aimed at anyone in particular, it is a general comment) see themselves as almost above your average theme park visitor; the so called 'general public'. There is an attidude of "they don't know as much as us therefore they are inferior".

In reality any visitor to a theme park is a member of the general public. Some are enthusiasts like us. Some just really like visiting theme park but do not share such a deep level of interest in the goings on. And some are probably their against their will!

Without having read most of the posts in this thread, I would imagine that the general gist of it is more "things that non-enthusiasts say that annoy you".

To tell you guys the truth, I'm not really a fan of the term "general public", as it implies that enthusiasts are superior. I prefer the term "non-enthusiast", as not everyone has to be interested in theme parks, in my opinion.

In my eyes, we're all the general public unless we work in the industry!

Very refreshing to read this from others really. If there is one thing that I think has ruined theme park enthusiasm over the last 10 years, it's the assumption that liking theme parks makes you part of some "Enthusiast" community with its own group think and lifestyle. And that anyone else is "The GP", who can't possibly be enjoying the parks as much as you are, because they don't even know what "a B&M" or "a woodie" is.

Theme parks are for everyone, it's about the entertainment and having a fun day out.

I still post on here obviously and also have lots of good friends who are passionate fans – I am one myself! But personally I went back to enjoying parks a lot more after I stopped seeing everything through the prism of 'The Theme Park Enthusiast Community' when I was a teenager.

There's a difference being a fan of theme parks and defining yourself by some 'online community' lifestyle. After that, it kind of stops being about just having fun with friends and family (which is the whole point of theme parks) in my opinion. But maybe that's a different discussion!

I don't think I'm some kind of superbeing for knowing a few ... OK, a LOT of ... geeky facts.

However, everyone else I have ever encountered in a theme park is low life scum with a combined IQ in negative figures, who need to be culled for the good of the species.

...me, shakey and dippy Dave I consider normal.
They, however, think I'm weird.
So that is only three of you in total then.
I think most of us are in this situation with our friends. Once you realise it, you have taken the first steps towards zen enlightenment.

Whilst it’s abolutely true that many people who visit theme parks but don’t understand them to the level that enthusiasts do are no different in the sense that they have their own hobbies which they will excel in and which makes them unique as individuals. It’s snobbish to view these types of people as less or to call them the 4chan equivalent of ‘normies’. They are out for a good day as well, yeah, which is far more important. Some of them, maybe, will pick up on niche things, or have memories of visiting in the past when the parks were a lot different too. You can’t isolate them. That goes for a hell of a lot of people who aren’t in the ‘enthusiast clique’

BUT, in this day and age, there are also more and more people who don’t think for themselves at all and live in a hive mind mentality. These people are typically ‘chav’ like, and everything they do is geared around how they are seen by their mates, no indivualism. They don’t have any passions or cares, I’d be willing to bet they don’t have jobs or earn income for themselves, and they spend most of their time acting like uneducated idiots (which incidentally, they are) :)

I have a seething pure hatred for these types of people. Thankfully there are quite a few people out there with a sense of class which keeps my hopes up, but these days it’s becoming more ‘few and far in between’
