Is it quarter final time already? Our first tie sees Blue Fire straight back into action and up against its Swedish cousin. Return of the Macks.

Blue Fire

Helix

Perhaps even easier than the Taron vs Black Mamba decision.

All Helix needs to make it a perfect coaster is Blue Fire's on-board audio system and efficiency and it would be virtually the perfect roller coaster. It stands head and shoulders over Blue Fire in every other aspect however, so it's only right it gets the vote.

Well this is easy. I love Blue Fire but Helix takes the same ride system and makes it so much better! So Helix it is.

I mean it's my number one, so really it has to be Helix without any doubt! A stunning ride through and through, I agree with Danny the only crying shame is the lack of on board audio as the track on the POV is clearly designed for it. Perfection.

Now also, I know everybody has an opinion, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't intrigued by the Blue Fire vote here! Again, by no means a bad coaster, but I can only assume it's somebody who has only ridden Blue Fire and thus is only voting for coasters that they've ridden?

Well, I wasn't expecting to be totally on my own here, so I guess I'll 'fess up to being the mystery Blue Fire voter!

I have indeed been on both rides, and I have to admit Helix is probably the most disappointing ride I've ever been on. Except for the two airtime hills and the entrance to the helix, the whole thing just felt quite floaty and repetitive, with a bit of a rattle to it that isn't there on Blue Fire. I'd like to say that those three standout moments saved the ride, but they didn't live up to the final inversion on Blue Fire.

It's possible that the seatbelt induced 80 minute queue full of space invading teenagers just beginning the summer holidays put me in a bad mood, but I rode it again the next day with a much shorter wait and reduced expectations and my thoughts were much the same. Was just pretty underwhelmed by both Helix and Liseberg in general, tbh.

I haven't done Helix since 2014, and expect it to have lost some of the sparkle I had for it then. That said, it's a better layout than Blue Fire. So it gets the vote.

I am probably of the view that Liseberg, in general, is overrated, though. Even though I like it there.

Two of my favourite coasters here but really there's no competition when they're put in direct comparison. Helix really does everything that can be done with the ride type as well as can be, and it really is quite ridiculous perched on the side of that hill. Great air-time, two good launches, a nice variety of inversions and a banging theme song.

Blue Fire is great, a really lovely vibe to it and I've never had to queue that long to ride (maybe that's luck though!), special mention for that final inversion which is just ridiculous.

Vote for Helix.
