Blackpool Pleasure Beach: General Discussion

Would the cost of the bridge be down to PB or the council? As was it Blackpool’s choice to install it years back or just the council? I just assumed the bridge had always been there but I guess not years back.
 
It was built by the Beach, the same lengthy pour as the log flume lake and supports.

My earliest Beach memory is nearly getting run over when walking between the Ice Drome (as it was back then), and the Roller Coaster.
There were small white posts at the side of the road, but that was it.
The road traffic was slowed by the number of punters, but that was as far as traffic calming went back then!
There have been repairs and patching over the years, but large parts of the edge concrete has blown, due to rot of the rebar steel.
Very common problem with reinforced concrete on the coast...all that sea salt gets to the rebar in the end.

The bridge is strong enough for punters, the rebar stops it falling apart, i think the real risk is chunks of concrete dropping from the underside onto cars and peds.
 
Would getting rid of the road be that tricky? They seem to have the power to shut it at will anyway. Every time there is something going on in the Arena, or simply because they feel like it. It’s always seemed like a totally pointless road to me.

The park would be better without the road, but... BPB now has so many things built off that bridge it would cost a fortune to integrate it back down at ground level. Infusion, Big dipper, half the catering venues, W&G, the arena entrance, Coasters and the East and West ramps would all need work.
I can't imagine how you'd sort W&G out in a way that people would trudge up to it?

Oh, how about a monorail station, that could work :)

If the overpass is beyond reasonable repair, keeping things as is may not be an option.
The Dipper, Streak and Infusion are all at ground level, so restructuring there would be quick and cheap.
The ramps would create space when removed, so no problems at the Arena, the top doors are never used anyway.
Catering units are comparatively cheap, and could take up the ramp spaces.
Couple of long extra ramps, similar to the ones now, would sort Wallace out.
Tear down the overpass I say, improve access to all.
Think of the old man's knees.

Somebody muttered something dark about the council wanting another bloody risk assessment because of the dodgy concrete and passing cars, but nothing more.

Icon on one train...managed to touch the stainless arch on the first launch today.
So proud, made the whole afternoons skiving worthwhile.
 
Part of daily operations.
Just done later on a Sunday as the operating staff get up later!
It has to warm up the wheels to prevent a stall before the first inversion.
It still goes through there very slowly for the first few rides.

Thanks Rob, been open an hour and we've pretty much covered everything we've wanted to do. Weather's been ace, so head to Crevettes and wait for Icon to warm up :D
