[2024] Nemesis Reborn: Construction and Speculation

I wonder if nemesis is still the most popular ride on park?
If I had to guess, I'd personally say no; my guess for most popular these days is either The Smiler or Wicker Man; they seem to have the most people rushing towards them in the mornings, and Wicker Man was apparently the overall favourite ride in feedback surveys in 2018, so it wouldn't surprise me.

Wicker Man is very close to Towers Street, hence why the GP rush to it in the morning. (us enthusiasts know to leave it to later) :p

That is true, but even so, Wicker Man and The Smiler seem to have far more consistently large crowds waiting for them throughout the day than Nemesis (from my experience, at least, and this is even accounting for throughput differences), and they also seem to be the most talked about rides outside of enthusiast circles.

The latest, newest big rides have always been the most popular.
Water rides had the longest queues in their first few years as well.
Only Nemesis has remained consistently popular with both geeks and normals...whatever they are.

It also has a higher throughput than most other coasters in the park. Though I agree, it's unlikely to be as popular as Wicker Man for example.

Throughput cannot always be used as an excuse to say why it doesn't get as long queues as other rides. For example, if rita is on 60 min queue and nemesis 10, then clearly rita is more popular regardless of throughput

20 years ago at opening it was either bomb it to Nemesis first thing in the morning or Oblivion

I prefer to leave Nemesis to the afternoon now to save the best til last. The rest seem mediocre once you’ve been on Nemesis first imo. A lot may disagree with that.

I disagree, sorry.
Throughput and capacity are strange beasts.
On a typical day...six hours open.
Nemesis, throughput of 1300 people per hour.
Rita, roughly 1000 per hour at most, probably less.
The queues shorten towards the end of the day, so even if Rita has an hour queue at the end of the day, Nemesis would still have had over a thousand more riders in the day than rita.
Don't confuse queue length, and throughput, for popularity.
The Alpine Slide, on the Oblivion site, used to have horrendous throughput, about sixty per hour, so it had a very similar queue wait to Corky.
Does that make it as popular as Corkscrew?
No.
Nemesis and Oblivion are major queuemunchers when operated well, which makes them appear less popular, as they have shorter queues.
But the newer major rides are always the most popular for their first few years.

Erm, also dont forgot that WM height is 1.2m while Nemmie is 1.4m so it will appeal more to families, so yes I think WM is the more popular coaster in terms of rider numbers at the moment.

I get what you mean, but I never see people queuing for nemesis at all anymore. Nemesis having a queue these days is more of a miracle than WM not having one

You've clearly been going on the right days if nemesis has always been walk on.

I took a photo when the queue was down to Galactica lockers and posted it here.

I did try to back this up with some statistics about average queue length, but it seems queue times has forgotten nemesis exists too.

Please, for everybody's sanity shut up. Your arguement makes literally no sense, and have clearly not visited on a busy day. If you ask people what their favourite ride in the park is I'd wager good money that Wicker Man, Smiler and Nemesis would be ahead of rita. You could probably put Oblivion and Galatica ahead of Rita as well. Rita sturggles to get to 900pph nowadays while Nemesis is pumping the trains out and sometimes waiting for the second train to hit the break run. Rita doesn't even load until the second train is on the break run.

FV has always seemed busier in the afternoons anyway from my recollection. Doesn’t help when the sky ride isn’t open & with staggered opening times around Katanga Canyon.

Rick is right, "most popular" is completely meaningless.

You'd need to frame it more specifically, such as:
  • Does Nemesis consistently get the biggest queue?
  • Does Nemesis get the most number of riders per day?
  • Do people prefer Nemesis over other rides?
  • Would people prefer to queue 1 hour for Nemesis or 1 hour for <another ride>?
  • Would people be bothered if they travelled and it was closed?
  • Would people travel to the park at all if they knew it was closed?
  • etc
