What a weird letter. It's written as though it was by the employee, even though it then goes on to confirm it was not (as if the headed paper wasn't enough of a clue). It almost reads like Alton Towers are suggesting the employee can't write a letter by their self.

The letter also states that the employee would like "additional hours", even though they currently have no hours, neither with Alton Towers nor with whoever this letter is intended for.

Just a simple letter of recommendation, from a named senior member of staff, would have sufficed.

We'll have more than a 40 day season! The park should probably be open by the summer if the predictions about the spread (which have been correct thus far) are anything to go by!

Which predictions have been correct? The one where Italy runs out of space in its morgues for the dead?

We are in massively uncharted territory. We don't know when testing kits will be available or even if long term immunity is possible post infection.

I was referring to the predicted path of the virus' spread in Britain, which Chris Whitty and the other scientists have said is following their model thus far.

Well that was hard work.

The chancellor and Boris were asking Employers to not get rid of staff. Towers should be receiving payments to cover 80% staff costs from the government.

I'm not sure what to make of this letter. Are they or are they not paying staff? Are they suggesting staff are paid by Alton but 'helping out' in other industries?

The letter states they are 'employed' so in theory they should be getting paid.

I believe they are still employed but they have effectively reduced everyone’s hours down to zero. So no pay until the park opens.

This sounds like the decision was made before the chancellors announcement after 5pm today. Whether that will or can change things for the staff I don’t know. I sincerely hope it does.
