Friday Night Dinner

I can't believe I didn't know there were more series. I watched the first three on netflix but watched the last three over the last week or so. It does feel like a natural ending with the last episode. I can't say it's my favourite show ever but Martin and Jim kept me coming back.

This bit had me crying with laughter when I first saw it:

If that was the last one then the last words were a heartfelt "SHIT ON IT", which is nice.

I wonder if it was teed up for a spin off series with the brothers becoming dads. Probably a decent fresh way of moving it on a bit, I also get the impression getting Tamsin Greig available with everyone else is hard work, less of her would make it easier to make.

That’s a nice idea, actually. If it were a new spin-off series, then it would be able to forge a new path for the family, as opposed to relying on the same old premise, which I think would be a bit strange with grandchildren thrown into the mix. I also think that a one-off thing would be a nice idea, such as maybe another Christmas Special, or maybe a film like The Inbetweeners had?

Why would getting Tamsin Greig be harder work than anyone else, though? I know she starred in Belgravia recently, but I can’t think of any other majorly time-consuming roles she’s had recently. Paul Ritter has also been in quite a bit recently (most notably things like Chernobyl, and he was also in Belgravia), and Simon Bird and Tom Rosenthal also still have quite active TV careers as far as I’m aware.

I certainly wouldn’t object to a 7th series of FND, as I think Robert Popper still has plenty of great ideas, but at the same time, I also think that that episode felt like a fitting finale.

I'm sure I read somewhere her availability was a big part of the gap between series, might be wrong. I think she's so in demand she probably gets to chose what she wants rather than needing the work like others might!

It certainly wouldn’t surprise me if that were true, as I believe her acting career is very long and established now!

Just got round to finishing watching the last series and I think the show has probably run it's course for me now.

There have been some really funny episodes but the 2 sons constantly behaving like 8 year old's does start to grate a bit after a while and it loses reality a bit.

As Ted Bovis from Heidi-Hi used to say.... "First rule of comedy Spike, you must have reality."

Best episode for me has to be the Fox in the Freezer episode.
