you could say that about the corkscrew, but it still got replaced. it's not done by popularity it's done by by cost to run the ride and it's going to be cheaper to replace nemesis with SW9. don't get me wrong i love nemesis to though

In terms of complexity, I'd argue that removing Nemesis would cost far more than clearing another flatter plot of land elsewhere in the park. Corkscrew was on a completely flat plot of land, and I get the impression that it wasn't overly well liked by the time of its removal. It was also very basic by modern standards.

I'm not saying Nemesis is invincible by any means, but it is far, far more well liked than Corkscrew was at the same age, and B&Ms are built to last. A bespoke B&M will likely have been built to last for far longer than a stock model Vekoma corkscrew coaster. I admit that it is not the most popular ride at the park anymore in terms of queue length or guest satisfaction (both Smiler & Wicker Man rate higher in guest satisfaction surveys these days), but it is far more unique and arguably more iconic than Corkscrew ever was. Even as someone who likes Nemesis quite a bit less than the status quo, I admit that it's a very unique, iconic coaster, far more so than Corkscrew.

perhaps nemesis should stay, but sometimes you have to make sacrifices that could possible make you have less visitors or have more visitors. i think alton towers know that and that's the reason i feel that SW9 could be in nemesis's place. there are rumors going round saying that alton towers are preparing to remove the first 3 of the SW [secret weapon] series, but i'm not sure if that's true. i wouldn't be surprised though.

Any source to these rumours...first I have heard about the removal of three coasters...lots of cobblers floating around here currently, should get my shoes fixed.

i can't remember but i was looking for any information and managed to find a website talking about a teaser and the possibility of it replacing nemesis. it was also explaining in the same article about that SW4 and SW5 . like i say though i can't say the rumors are true unless someone is able to confirm this.

You're living in cuckoo land. Nemesis is much loved and still in great condition, and still pulls the ratings to sit comfortably in the world rankings after all of these years. Nemesis is Alton Towers and Alton Towers is Nemesis. There's nothing more iconic to the park that would or could replace it.

To say that Nemesis, Oblivion and Galactica are being removed (Europes and two worlds first) is insane. These aren't rumours, but just daft talk, much like the possibility of Nemesis being removed for a dark ride, jeesus!

Your post history also mentions the replacement of Nemesis from back in 2018 as well. Please give us the details why you think Nemesis needs to go, I'd expect some good stats and figures to support any argument stating that it needs to go to replace her with a new SW.

Nemesis needs a big tent putting over it to turn it into a dark ride.
That would do as the next SW.
48 pages of random speculation, with no "real food" to chew on.
Two and a half years after opening this topic Matt...no real news still.
Probably for another two and a half years in the current circumstances.

There's absolutely no chance Nemesis, Oblivion or Galactica are going anywhere anytime soon. SW9 likely won't even have a coaster removed for it, and the next coaster removal I'd say is likely to be either Rita or Spinball Whizzer.

Are you on drugs?
These rides aren’t going anywhere. They are all in relatively good shape mechanically, popular and reliable. Removing anyone of them would require a complete redesign of the area it sits in. Right now that won’t happen. You’ve more change of AT leaving them SBNO for a few years than taking them down

RITA will go first followed by spinball.

the next ride will be relatively cheap given the economic situation were in - which says to me we will be looking at a flat piece of land

Still can't understand why everyone thinks Spinball will be removed... It's a very popular and fun ride and has reasonably low maintenance costs, makes little sense. Cbeebies is big enough as it is and World of Walliams is opening up, which I think will get priority over Cbeebies for the coming years.

Maybe if they gave them all a proper good wash & took better cosmetic care of them they’d feel like brand new Secret Weapons, but I suppose that should go in the Grime topic.

I don't know if I've just completely imagined this, but I thought a few years back Spinball was earmarked for removal within the next 10 years or so.

What the others said, in essence; the park tells the locals a basic idea of what they intend to potentially do over the next decade. In Alton Towers’ case, I must admit that the 2010s turned out very, very differently to how Merlin wanted them to turn out in 2009...
