Public transport from Baden airport

Hi - Has anyone accessed Europa by public transport via Baden airport?

done a fair bit of research, and it looks pretty straight forward

Bus from airport to Baden-Baden train station - train to Ringsheim via 1 change - bus from Ringsheim to Park and hotels. In as little as 1hr 30 (but am prepared for it to be 2-2.5 hrs due to waits and missed connections etc)

Has anyone done it this way and can offer any incites? - I've looked at timetables and am prepared for some odd timings (bus from airport to train station is once an hr - so if you just miss it etc etc).

And before anyone says 'It'll be easier to hire a car' - I can't drive! Oh and are their taxis fairly freely available in the area (if you miss the bus from Ringsheim and have an hrs wait etc) - or even walk!?

N.b am also interested in hearing about access by public transport from other airports - But Baden seemed the most straight forward/shortest.

Yeah it's fine, would definitely recommend. We couldn't find a bus to the station from the airport though so got a taxi for about £15.

The Basel airport route is slightly more tourist friendly but both are straightforward enough.

Don't miss the bus at Ringsheim or you have to wait an hour for the next bus.
Taxis are rare at Ringsheim.
It is possible to walk from Ringsheim to Rust but i don't know if there is a nice footpath.

Yeah - thats why I wondered if theres any bookable taxi company's or systems, I also thought maybe if I rang the hotel (park hotels) they would ring a taxi for me?

Hi. On our first visit we did this route on the way out from Stansted. I was quite anxious about catching the shuttle bus from the airport to Baden-Baden train station in time to get my train. Luckily I managed to swap seats on the plane with someone on the back row next to the door so was one of the first off via the rear steps.

Recommend downloading the DB Navigator app to your phone. You may want to look to see if purchasing the Baden-Württemberg regional day ticket works out cheaper than buying a Baden-Baden to Ringsheim single train ticket. It may well do if there's more than one of you.

Local train from Baden-Baden require a change of trains in Offenburg. If the shuttle bus at Ringsheim doesn't line up with your arrival or you just don't fancy the wait get a taxi.

I've yet to catch the shuttle bus and have used Taxi700 both times. I emailed them at [email protected] telling them what time train you’ll be arriving on and there was a taxi waiting. It’s on a meter and usually works out at about €20 if you round up and leave a tip.

Thank you

As a fairly small airport - how long would you say it took from disembarking plane to getting out the airport? I was looking at time planes get in to the bus leaving - and its about 40 mins - but sometimes it take 10 mins to get out of an airport or an hr! especially at the moment I don't know if theres extra faff! I would just get taxi if not

also from the flight i was looking at get in at 18.00 - which cuts it fine-ish for the last 21.15 shuttle at Ringsheim - so wanted to know an option if you miss that, so thank you for that.

Having flown in to both Baden and Basel I prefer Basel for the wider range of transport options. There are far more flights to chose from (or at least there were pre-Covid). Once you arrive there's always a shuttle bus to get into the city centre. Basel has a large tram network so you can head straight to the DB station or spend some time exploring the city. The trains to Ringsheim are also quite regular even If the journey's slightly longer.
Personaly I've never arrived at Ringsheim and not seen the Park Bus there and 5 minutes off departing.

Edit: I've also done the journey from Stuttgart. I wouldn't recommend it due to the extra length of the journey (I think the train took over 2 hours) but it did let me do Tripsdrill in the same trip.

Thank you - can I just ask what the route from Basel is? Google comes up with no route found when you try and do a search!

Best to ditch Google and use the Deutsche Bahn website. You can put Basel Airport in there and Europa-Park Hotels to give you full directions. Download the DB Navigator app for use when you're over there too, it's brilliant as it gives you platform numbers too :).

Basel airport is a great option, however do note that you will have to follow UK quarantine restrictions on your return at present as the airport is located on French soil.

Also who knows what the situation will be post the Brexit regulation changes? You technicly pass through 2 European country's (France and Germany) and 2 non-European countries (UK and Switzerland).
Until we know more Baden might be a simpler option.

+1 for the DB website. I also recommend the DB app when you're there as it's good for checking if there's any disruption or cancellations.

Last year I went back from Europa-Park to Basel by public transport, and my travel itinerary was:
  1. Europa-Park shuttle bus to Ringsheim station
  2. RE 17014 from Ringsheim to Offenburg (about 20 minutes)
  3. 40 minute wait at Offenburg
  4. ICE 277 from Offenburg to Basel SBB (about 1 hour 15 minutes)
  5. Bus 50 from Basel SBB to Basel EuroAirport (about 20 minutes)

I can't imagine there being any difference as both the UK and EU are keen to maintain Visa free travel for tourists (being a maximum of 90 days in a period of 180 days), and additionally Switzerland is part of the Schengen Area so is subject to exactly the same visa policy as France and Germany.

Just another ask, for those who've flown into Baden - how long would you say the departure process is from plane to exiting airport?
I know timing might be impacted by covid etc atm - but the airport seems quite small (also only taking hand-luggage - so not waiting for baggage).

Its just I want to work out if I will catch one of the buses from the airport!

As I was sat on the back row and departed via the rear steps I was through passport control and outside the airport within 5 mins. It will all depend on where you are seated on the plane, how quick you disembark and how many border control officers they have on duty.

Back from my little - last min jaunt

Thanks so much for the advice - The DB app was the best top tip, indispensable! which i wouldn't have know about if I hadn't have asked....the app updates your journey whilst you're on it, and tells you if you will be able to join your connections - and amends your route accordingly!

A couple of observations myself to any others considering this route (or general public transport).

  • Some of the buses are still cash only! even with everything thats going on - many buses don't seem to have card payment capabilities! Considering some of the buses run once an hour - I saw an instance of a native German passenger - after having waited 30 mins for a bus - be told it was cash only! they had assumed everything must be card payment (I was close to that assumption myself) - so when they asked the driver 'will you wait while I go get some cash out - the drivers response was basically 'no' - eek! SO moral of the story, be safe and make sure you have 40 or 50 euro on you during a trip and don't assume everything is card! A taxi I took was also cash only - and didn't tell me to the end of the journey, luckily I had cash! But I contemplated going cash free on the trip - but thought I'd take a few euros to be safe!.....so there you go!
  • You can use the DB app to buy train tickets in advance (save time at machines etc), I never had anyone check for tickets though!
  • Baden airport is V small - I made a sort of mistake by heading there early on return was through security in 5 mins - and there was one cafe open and not much else! has a sweet little outside seating terrance overlooking part of the runway, nice on a sunny day like today!
  • Even though i didn't use that taxi700 - I ALMOST did as my train got in at the exact min the bus was due to leave - it was pushing it fine - and if you miss the bus, it can be up to an hour until the next (and they stop at like 21.15) so having a taxi company you can ring would be a good back-up plan, because it's a pretty small station with nothing much there -so you'd not want to wait there for ages!

Glad it worked out. Yes - totally worth having a taxi phone number back up for Ringsheim to EP.

:)

On the subject of cash only I'm surprised how much of Europe is still cash only. In January I had a business trip in the Netherland's and was sent over with a company card. I quickly realised that I couldn't use half the local stores as even if they did allow cards they were quite heavily restricted. There were plenty of cash points but that didn't help me with my cards restrictions.

Glad to hear you had a good trip. It’s always nice to receive feedback of a positive trip after providing advice.

Stanstead to Baden-Baden is currently £20 return if anyone fancy’s a cheap trip with Ryanair.
