TowersStreet’s Favourite Coasters of 2020

Hello everybody, and Happy Halloween!

As many of you may know, I have run a little coaster poll-type thing for the past 2 years utilising data from the Top Ten Coasters thread. However, 2020 and the year it’s turned out to be have meant that top tens have not seen an awful lot of change, and thus there is a far smaller sample size of top tens to go off of within the thread this year. I don’t personally feel that it would be a fair representation of the site’s opinions to go off such a small sample size, so for this year, I’ve decided to give the methodology a slight overhaul and collect the lists separately, which is why I’ve created this independent thread. I also think it would be a better way of collecting data even disregarding the current circumstances because it means that you don’t necessarily have to have any movement within your top 10 in order to post it and get involved, thus encouraging maximum participation.

So, I am now going to begin collecting data for this year’s poll! If you wish to participate in the 2020 poll, then please post a top 10 either in the thread below, or PM it to me if you’d prefer a more private approach. As per usual, you have until 31st December 2020 at midnight to post your lists, so that I can provide the results as close to the New Year as possible!

So with that, I encourage you to post your lists if you want to influence the rankings!

My top 6 are solid, although Wodan has shifted down a few places over recent years. After that it becomes more hazy as I haven't visited Florida since I was very young so it's hard to compare these rides to those of a similar standard that I've ridden more recently. I'm confident that Oz'Iris beats Montu though, and that was always my favourite coaster in Florida.

1: Fury 325
2: Shambahla
3: Nemesis
4: Afterburn
5: Intimidator
6: Kumba
7: Stealth
8: Red force
9: Montu
10: White Lightning- this rates high due to night ride, it being brand new and I was a couple of beer up

Merry Christmas everybody; hope you all have a lovely day!

While I appreciate that today probably isn’t the time, I’d also like to remind you all that you only have 6 days left to post your list for TowersStreet’s Favourite Coasters of 2020, if you wish to have your list counted. I’ll be intrigued to see 2020’s results!

I'm a bit late to the party, but here are my top favourite rollercoasters based on what I've ridden this season

Zilch ;) :D

Have you got a top 10 based on everything you’ve ever ridden?

Oh dear... I did a good job of abandoning this towards the end of the year, didn't I?

Well, I'm happy to post that finally, 21 days late, I have 2020's results! Sorry for my lateness; I completely forgot about this poll, to tell you the honest truth!

For 2020's TowersStreet poll, 12 members ranked a total of 64 different roller coasters. A pretty small sample size this year, I must say, but perfectly understandable given the circumstances.

If you don't know how this works; what I do to calculate a ride's score is I calculate each roller coaster's mean ranking and then divide that by the number of riders in order to ensure that the amount of the community that included that ride is taken into account.

So without further ado, here are TowersStreet's top 10 roller coasters of 2020:
  1. Steel Vengeance at Cedar Point (RMC, 2018, Final Score 0.25)
  2. Helix at Liseberg (Mack Rides, 2014, Final Score 0.56)
  3. Untamed at Walibi Holland (RMC, 2019, Final Score 0.72)
  4. Nemesis at Alton Towers (B&M, 1994, Final Score 0.8)
  5. Taron at Phantasialand (Intamin, 2016, Final Score 0.875)
  6. Fury 325 at Carowinds (B&M, 2015, Final Score 1)
  7. Wicker Man at Alton Towers (GCI, 2018, Final Score 1)
  8. Wodan at Europa Park (GCI, 2012, Final Score 1.16)
  9. Maverick at Cedar Point (Intamin, 2007, Final Score 1.1875)
  10. Hyperion at Energylandia (Intamin, 2018, Final Score 1.25)
So, that's the top 10 coasters for this year! If you want to see the entire list, as well as the maths that formed it, here's my full spreadsheet:

I hope you like the results, and I again apologise for my lateness; I hope I can be earlier with 2021's results!
