Booking a trip 2021

I'm really tempted to book a trip for late may (Mainly for my 3 year old)
My big questions are.
1..is It likely that the waterpark will open.
2..Are the hotels in there current state worth visiting or should I look off park?
3 Are you allowed to see shows in other hotels and are they even on for the kids?
4.. at £150 a night for splash landings would the situation at the moment dilute the magic of the hotels. I know the monorail wasn't running last year

1. No-one knows when waterparks / swimming pools will be allowed to open.
2. Personally I don't rate the hotels - they are 3* at best. You state you will be visiting with a young child, so it may be the best option for pure convenience to stay in one of the hotels though.
3. They can't stop you walking between the AT Hotel & Splash Landings. However you can't see the entertainment in CBeebies Hotel unless you are staying in it.
4. The current situation is diluting any magic / fun everywhere!

In relation to (2), above. There are not many other accommodation options in the immediate vicinity, bar some B&B's. If you want a budget hotel, there is a Premier Inn in Uttoxeter & a Travelodge in Ashbourne. Both have "dining pubs" attached or just over the carpark. I've never had a bad nights sleep in a Premier Inn & if you book suitably in advance you'll get a room there for under £50 a night. It's also worth noting that the soundproofing between the rooms & corridors on the AT Hotel & Splash Landings leaves little to be desired. Basically if you stay at an on-park hotel, you are going to be paying theme park prices for everything. Stay at the Premiier Inn or Travelodge and it'll be a lot cheaper.

EDITED - to change the answer to Q1 about the Waterpark. I had a "blonde moment" when I typed the reply, thinking the OP was planning on booking for May next year!

Someone I know has looked at Waterpark availability for early may and it is completely booked up then.
 
We have always had wonderful stays at the chained oak b&b.

Wouldn't consider staying anywhere else, particularly as the quality of on site accommodation is so poor and overpriced.
 
It's incredibly difficult to say anything will be open for certain at the moment. Come late May I think the only thing you can say with decent high likelihood is that the outdoor attractions at the park will be open. Everything else is very up in the air as the situation can vary wildly between now and then. Remember lockdown easing isn't just a linear thing, restrictions could get tighter as well as loosen as each stage happens. Each stage takes about 3 weeks to have an effect, so late May is still a little tight in my view.

Whatever happens though, it's clear there'll still be some sort of restrictions in place, so yes I think it's fair to say that the magic of the place will be diluted somewhat. Whether you can accept that or not is a personal decision though. I will hand it to Towers that they tried their best with the restrictions they had to work with last season, but in my view the price is still pretty high when so much of the offering has had to be substantially reduced or removed. Any entertainment would most likely be singers and the like outdoors at the hotels, I reckon it to be fairly unlikely it'll be indoors by May.

Bottom line for this year, like anything I'm planning even away from towers is ensure that anything you book is cancelable and refundable, or at the very least movable to another date without too much issue. I don't think you'll get much that will be 100% normal in 2021, but it'll still be a hell of a lot better than what we have currently!
 
Personally I can't believe how eye-wateringly expensive the hotels are, especially given that they don't even include park tickets. And the pppn is always given on an assumption that you're a family with 2.4 children and can fill a room for four, so in reality it's even more expensive than it seems.

I'd love to come and stay in one of the woodland lodges sometime, but with family close by as a free accommodation option I can't see that it will ever be financially justifiable.

Prices have always been high, it’s part and parcel of theme parks - but it was relatively easy pre-covid to find a discount. Whether it was the early season sale, the sun offer or flash sales midweek etc, but with demand for UK holidays being so high right now they are able to fill up the rooms at full price so sadly offers are pretty none existent right now.
