Little Changes: What would you do?

I would love to see the rapids more rapid(y), with waterfalls turned back on, and all the wave pools turned back on as well. Unfortunately can’t see it anytime soon.

it used to be a ride I did on every visit, now I barely even think about riding it. Not helped by it often running fewer boats than previously and also no boat sharing when busy (even before COVID).

I'm not sure Splash Canyon has ever seen much glory, to be honest.

In my opinion, back in the 90s, Splash Canyon was 100x better than Congo Rapids at AT. In my memory Splash Canyon had more "wild west" theming, whereas Congo just has some waterfalls and a random landrover by a lake. Although going into the tunnel with the Mine Train coming towards you really did scare me as a kid.

I think the characters could work if done well. Id like to see pirates walking round Mutiny bay interacting and causing 'mischief' like going on Battle galleons. Or the Bohemians returning to Wickerman.

I think you could also have characters in around Cbeebies land and David Walliams land

Then areas such as XSector and FV just increase the theming

CBeebies always had characters out and about all the time.

I do agree though I would love to see more street ents, 2020 was good as we did see plenty of ATTP and they were also out all day across the park, rather than for half hour in the morning and the evening which was often the case previously.

Splash Canyon was doing okay until the early 2000s, that's where the effects stopped being used and age started to set in on the animatronics. I remember the effects on Splash working and it looking okay as a kid, and I remember seeing it deteriorate over the years to what it was in 2017. When the designers had contracts with maintaining Pirate Adventure in the early/mid 90s, they'd spruce up Splash here and there too as a side job so it was definitely looked after in its early days.

Congo needs to have some treatment I agree. The concrete tunnel is more brutalist than Congo themed, if I am being honest. You could easily put something in there, be it tribal looking theming, water effects, more creative lighting, whatever. The actual layout could have more effects too. The problem you've got is that without seatbelts installed, a water effect is an invitation to stand up and with recent history of rapids accidents and the legal problems around it, it's not particularly wise. Oh and all pumps and waterfalls back on too...

Street ents should be there without question. It's the very least we should expect from a flagship UK theme park. After 2015, it made it all the more depressing when these were cut. Equally, it was great to see some return in recent years. But that's only scratching the surface of what Towers needs to be 'up to scratch'

I wonder if the rapids are heading toward the chopping block.

Ive said before though, I think they could theme events a lot better, these kinda small changes will do wonders

I think adding more theming and simlar is the way to go, make the tunnel more cave-like, add some better lighting. There is a lot that can be done to make the ride more interesting without using squirters.

I agree: Splash Canyon's days started to suffer once they built Shock Wave. It does/did have some nice theming but, like a lot of DMP, it was just left to rot.
We're really saying Splash Canyon's glory days were a paltry twelve months?

Well, to be fair, I don't really *remember* it in the early 1990s, as although I did visit - I went to Alton Towers much more. But boxing in the ride like that... urgh.

I thought it was a pretty ingenious use of space really, plus you get views of Shockwave that would be impossible without it (and are now it's closed...).

I think an important small change the park really needs is an amp up of cleaning, especially areas like the smiler which always looks damp and dirty. Other than that, as its been said, 100% SRQs should come back, and more theming on both ugly concrete tunnels on galactica and river rapids! Although I do think the rapids is on its last few seasons

If it's just little things, would love to see loads more Enterainment on park, such as shows and roamers. Having these random encounters with characters, whether its scripted or just an actor messing around, really adds a personal layer of magic to any park. I'll always remember walking through Phantasialand and accidentally walking past an acrobatics show which engrossed us for a short while- ents really help break up rides and gives much more variety to your day. Thankfully we've got Oktoberfest now and generally a few more roamers, so hopefully it's the sign of things to come!

I think they will see how Oktoberfest and events do this year and if there is a good reaction to it again we will see the return of 'Power Of The Towers' and bringing in more events
