Park Hours: Updates and Discussion

To be fair some people can have a great day on park on a 10-4, I know I’ve been previously on a 10-4 and literally every ride has been 0 mins all day including The Smiler which was new at the time. Of course this season is a bit different and I think you’ll struggle to find such a quiet day, but maybe there will be some later in the year, but we’ll see.

It feels like that’s the biggest difference this season, there are a lot fewer quiet days as holidays abroad and other options aren’t happening. So in previous years you could get a quiet weekday with lots of short queues, but it isn’t as common this year. So as said they are extending most days, but it would be nice if more notice was given and the hours confirmed a month before not 10 days.

I feel like I've somewhat had a sock put in my mouth now, but yes I've also had some excellent 6 hour days on park when thinking of it only from a selfish point of view. On my own. Or with an adult friend. Doing nothing else but riding coasters. With no intentions to do anything else other than riding coasters. Spending nothing other than fuel money and using a bargain basement season pass to get in.

But then theme parks aren't about fat geeks like me paying bugger all to get in just to whore coasters all day. Theme parks wouldn't exist if they were all about that either. I thought I've made that clear a number of times but it appears to have gone over the heads of others so no point in me treading water. It's getting tiresome.

Theme parks aren't about that to you. But to many on here then it is just about getting on as many rides as possible

Don't forget that back in 2019 we lost 30 minutes of ERT and totally completely lost the ERT all together during the last couple of seasons due to covid. So for pass holders, ATR hotel guest and pre-booked tickets get even less hours in recent times

I won't insult your intelligence by claiming you have not read/are incapable of reading the rest of the posts and the points put across in this thread so far, including the one you just quoted. So please don't insult mine and think I'm stupid enough to not know when I'm being baited. For the sake of boring anyone else, everything that has been said on the subject has already been said. Let's move things along shall we?

I’ve been to Alton Towers several times before and felt like I got everything we wanted to do quite easily by 4pm (these were days with longer hours though I haven’t been to the park on a weekday in many many years) and that was without rushing or significantly skipping rides and we did stop for proper lunch.

yes the 4pm hours are often too short, particularly in 2021 when weekdays are busier than they have been in years.
But it is possible to have a great day at the park, take ride plenty of rides without rushing and skipping lunch.
I’ve been on fireworks Sunday and felt like we almost ran out of things to do by 3pm in 2019. But then with many rides gone (no submission, ripsaw, Charlie, 4D show etc) it felt like there wasn’t much else left to do back then. But we had done all the major coasters except Smiler and Duel plus rollercoaster restaurant by about 3pm.

Theme parks are about fat geeks paying bugger all to whore the coasters all day.
And beer.
No need to tread water.

Hours are extended through to July 4th.

Mon-Thu 10-17
Fri 10-18
Sat-Sun 10-20

I've already committed to going elsewhere during that time, in no small part due to the posted opening hours for journey I'd have. I can't be the only one.

They need to commit to this further in advance when many people are planning their trips.

I slightly disagree, I think the minimum opening should be 10-5 so everyone gets a good minimum stay but if they commit too far ahead you end up promising an 8pm close, it rains all day and people either don’t come or leave because they are cold and wet and the budget is wasted.

As I say I would have a decent minimum operating day and then extend based on bookings and weather.

It's midweek, previously posted 4PM, that I was looking at. An acceptable minimum is exactly what I'm after.

I fancied a Wednesday July 7th trip on my day off but I'm not travelling almost 3 hours to stand in hour plus queues on a 6 hour day. There's just not enough certainty to make me want to tap the card details in and I don't see why I should have to wait for an "extension", not that the park should see a 5pm close as an "extension" anyway.

It won't stay as 4pm and its pretty obvious. 10-5 is a standard operating day in a UK park so not sure what more you want

I thought reading the last few posts that the answer to this was blindingly obvious so no point in dignifying with any further response to this

Pretty rude and frankly stupid post. You're still not very good at this, are you?

An advertised 4PM close is a 4PM close until the park say it isn't.
Well yes correct well done on that one. Doesn't mean it'll stay at 4 and given that 3 weeks worth of 4pm closes have changed recently, it seems like an educated guess to assume it'll happen with future 4pm closes
