What is the finest achievement of Alton Towers?

Admittedly, the fact I’m not especially tall may mean increased contact with the OTSRs compared to some, but I wouldn’t personally say I find Smiler a particularly smooth or comfortable experience.

Try being 1.5m all your adult life! I'm thinking of taking earmuffs to my next trip. Or possibly just never riding Rita again...

As for Infusion, that can go to hell!

I’m not sure if height necessarily affects some rides; if my metric conversion is correct (Google says that 1.5m is about 4’11”), I’m close to a foot taller than you (I’m about 1.77m, or about 5’9.5”), and I still found Infusion excruciatingly rough…

You must be catching Rita on bad days, though, or I must be catching it on good days, because even though I used to not like it at all, and used to get terrible headbanging from it, it’s strangely seemed much smoother to me lately! Even my mum, who’s 1.6m/5’3” and also used to get terrible headbanging from Rita, agrees with me after our recent visits! I’m not debating that you might find Rita rough on your experiences (I know I certainly have in the past, and ride experiences can vary for all kinds of reasons, from the way the ride is running right through to the rider’s body type), but oddly, I’ve found it perfectly bearable lately, and I don’t exactly have a high roughness tolerance! Maybe I’ve just got a really rough go waiting for me on my next ride…

I would never claim Infusion to be smooth but I personally don’t find it too bad. Been on plenty worse. Having said that though I don’t think there’s anything rougher than it at AT.

OK so it sounds like Infusion is just awful - whatever height you are! @MakoMania please give me that list of rides that are plenty worse so I can avoid them like the plague! :D

I think height is an issue for me on Rita though - may as well just pay someone to box my ears repeatedly for thirty seconds!

Anyone who is not a corpse finds Infusion rough regardless of size

Vekoma SLC's are known as "hang & bang's" for a good reason. It wasn't too bad in it's very early days as Traumatizer at Southport. I rode it before it's official opening at Southport on an ECC trip (the station was not even complete - access was via builders planks). We were told an interesting bit about what happened when the last track piece was put in... there was a 6 inch gap left. They just loosened all the bolts on the track footer supports to give a bit of tolerance, bolted the track together where the 6 inch gap was then tightened everything up.

Haha, I knew it had come over from Southport but not that it had been called Traumatizer - sounds about right!

Try being 6'6 and going on Rita, it absolutely crushes my shoulders and it's unbelievably tight on my chest and to add to that my head goes over the head rest so there's no real way to brace myself, God damn came off feeling like I just went 12 rounds with Mike Tyson.

I think one of the reasons behind the Traumatizer name was because Pleasureland had originally intended a sponsorship tie-up with Tizer (as in the soft drink). This shows very progressive thinking for Pleasureland / BPB Marketing.... it took Towers a few more years to come up with the same idea for Fanta sponsorship on Oblivion!
