Scarefest 2021

Possibly but we still had three indoor mazes so Covid-19 clearly isn't preventing it. Toxic Junkyard was alright, but nothing special in my opinion.

I feel we can expect to see the same line-up as we did last year, possibly with some different routing for Toxic Junkyard. Wishful thinking here but I hope they can perhaps change how they batch groups through in regards to social distancing. AMT, DD, and TJ all worked well (for my run-throughs anyway), but sadly both runs of the Attic I had were very very poor, with massive queues inside the actual maze experience. Feels like the preshow + ascent up the stairs is a major contributor to this, as I don't think they can gauge how fast a group can go up the stairs.

The batching wasn't great on any of the mazes really, social distancing does raise a few issues mainly around capacity and waits but hopefully it will be much less of an issue this year than last.

Well hopefully that shouldn't be a problem this year come October

Hopefully! Even if the 21st June doesn't go ahead, I'd imagine the date for the abolition of social distancing will happen before Scarefest begins!

Personally, I'm hoping for a new maze this year; hopefully one with the level of imagination and detail as Altonville (my current favourite), OR as intense as Sub Species. I felt last year was a little weak maze-wise although understandably so with the restrictions, and we were lucky to have an event to be fair.

Can't wait til the line-up is announced!

Welcome to the forum @LLCorkscrew! Judging by your first two posts, I’m guessing you’re quite the Scarefest fan!

In terms of Scarefest 2021; I’d be very surprised if we don’t have at least a slightly more normal event than 2020’s, given that step 4 going ahead on 19th July looks quite promising.

I’ll admit I’ve never really gotten excited by Scarefest like everyone else. Don’t get me wrong, I spent a few hours in the morning at Scarefest 2015, and I liked the decorations, but controversially, the “scare” stuff doesn’t appeal to me in the slightest; I’m slightly afraid to admit this for fear of being mocked, but I do have a bit of a fear of costumed characters, especially scare actors, and I certainly don’t think I’d like the more extreme scare mazes and zones, personally.

I know this isn't the COVID thread, but does July 19 look promising? Cases and deaths are rapidly increasing, I'm going to contradict my last post in this thread and say I'm more uncertain now on what I originally said.

I know that cases are increasing, but it’s worth noting that the rate of rise is now beginning to plateau in many areas (the amount of time cases are taking to double is certainly getting a lot longer), and cases are even dropping in a number of former hotspots (e.g. Bolton). Hospitalisations and deaths have also not risen exponentially in the same manner as cases have due to the high efficacy of the vaccines.

Thanks, Matt.

Yes - I was in the first ever group on Terror of the Towers when its first incarnation launched in 2002, and have been obsessed since! (Was a member of various AT forums years ago, but missed engaging with fellow AT nerds hence re-registering).

In terms of not enjoying the mazes, I guess that they really appeal to some people and it's a continuum through to people who get no joy at all - we're all different!

How about trying the Attic perhaps - a more atmospheric, story-based maze than the others to see if you enjoy that? (Although there are still a few jump scares, there's other stuff to appreciate in there.)

Personal predictions:

Mine tours will not return for 2021. It's run it's course now imo. After 5 years, I can't see it returning.

Darkest Depths will return OR we will get a new family maze. I think it's more likely that darkest depths will return, though.

The Attic and Toxic Junkyard will both return. Junkyard may seem some more improvements and/or indoor sections, as last year the inclusion was probably, (and understandably), somewhat last minute.

Garden lights will return, possibly under a new title.

A NEW maze, but I have no idea what. Fun to speculate though

I do agree Batzy, I enjoyed Minetours, even with COVID changes but it’s definitely ran it’s course now and needs replacing.

Attic is still fairly new, but I do think it needs a few changes as it’s not that scary, and is quite short compared to some mazes.

I think we’ll see a new maze in the location of mine tours or sub species (maybe both), it would be good to get a intense sub species style maze back, maybe the same theme, but a whole new layout and changes to the maze. And I think that junk yard will return but hopefully a bit less Covid secure, and with some indoor sections. Would be good to see them use the goalstriker building, but not sure HB will want that.

Darkest depths will definitely come back, as it’s all set up and ready to go. I just think the location is a bit out the way, and most people won’t even know it’s there, it should really be included in the combo ticket.

If we do see the complete easing of restrictions in time for Scarefest then I think it's a great opportunity to do some replacing. It simply makes sense to replace the Mine Tours due to its' age, however I do worry about budget for this year's event? I could still potentially see the line-up remain unchanged. Perhaps there's potential of reintroducing a revamped sub-species? I'd imagine most of the props are still sitting collecting dust there in the basement?

They could do with better advertising of Darkest Depths too, I think I only saw one sign around the park advertising it, meanwhile I can remember the entire park being plastered with WANTED posters for the Boiler House in 2011.

Even when I was little I loved reading about Scarefest on the website and remember the 2011 season. The masks of the killers in the Boiler House really freaked me out and still does tbh haha.

Some predictions have played around with the idea of an old maze coming back. The Boiler House is the one people point to as most likely. On the contrary, Carnival of Screams has basically no chance to return as we have Freak Show as the new clown maze and you can see the props from CoS repainted for it.

I do wonder if thorpe park will bring some old mazes back this year with it being the anniversary of fright nights (or reimagined old mazes). I do wonder if we will ever see anything like that at towers with characters or parts of old mazes returning. Boiler house would be a good one with the masks.

I would assume that Towers have planned the mazes with social distancing in mind given the uncertainty over the easing of restrictions, so I think Scarefest won't be completely back to normal (pre-covid) til 2022. Also has anyone noticed any more activity around the N:ST building?

Somebody tweeted about Project 42 being removed. As far as I have seen in vlogs, (I'm not a regular visitor), there is no activity in the area. However, that could change. It could be used for anything at this point.

Also, I would agree with 2022. I think covid will still have an impact this year, but hopefully less so than last year.

The finale section was all removed this season from sub terra (about time as it look ugly as hell), but not sure that really means anything.

it was nice having a maze there, but was also a right pain getting to that end of the park when you were meant to do all 3 mazes within 90 mins. It does work better when the combo mazes are fairly close to each other.

I would rather see the ride return, even if it was just a peak or scarefest only attraction, really utilising the actions and scare section at the end,
