Oblivion: General Discussion

Given that Nemesis is supposedly due for a massive refurb; with Oblivion only being the junior coaster by 4 years, does that mean it'll eventually be Oblivion's turn to get re-furbished also? My question is, if so, how would they re-track the section that is deep underground without closing all of X-Sector for a season? Or would it be more likely to leave the park for good.
I can't see Oblivion needing one in the next 4 years. Nemesis is clearly in need of some great TLC what with all its recent issues, but unless something drastic happens to Oblivion, I think it'll be fine.
 
I remember my first visit on a very busy spring Saturday in 2002, Oblivion was our longest queue of the day (thanks to free VQ availability on Air). The ride still had significant pull and the iconic 1998 advert was still running right up to the Summer previous.

I dunno if it was achieving its theoretical throughput that day but by golly it was churning through the queues - you basically didn't stand still for more than a moment until you reached the point where the queue was split in 2 for the batching areas. The ride team all had their themed uniforms still and were absolute machines getting everyone loaded. It was all very impressive.

And yes, the hotel exit pass introduced a couple of years later was the end of throughputs like that, and all the subsequent messing about with the split batching areas only made things worse.
 
Oh I have a love hate relationship with this ride! Love the rush as you hit the banked turn coming up to the brakes, hate the climb up and the anticipation! Haven't ridden in a few years because I hate the butterflies in the stomach I get queuing and going up the lift. Must try and get back on though, I always love it after I've plucked up the courage to ride!
 
I love the climb, the adrenaline pumping and the feeling that theres no backing out as such, same with nemesis, Whilst I like rides like the smiler, I feel like the adrenaline is better on oblivion
 
It's a good ride, the big drop into the black hole is a great piece of drama (plus an ingenious way to get around a prohibitive height restriction!) but it's a shame it doesn't really do anything else after that. Dive coasters these days need to be more than just one drop so it's really lagging behind its competitors now. I personally wouldn't queue more than 15 mins for it because it's so damn short.
 
In regards to one drop making it lag behind competitors - I've only done Oblivion and Sheikra for dive coasters but I MUCH prefer Oblivion to be honest, by quite some margin. It wouldn't say Oblivion lags behind because it might be a one drop wonder but it does it so well.

I appreciate that's what they are but I am not sure that's what they need to be.

There's a lot of meandering on some of the newer rides, the second drop is never as good as the first and none of them have the theatre and drama that Oblivion has. It is great for its simplicity and just "all killer, no filler" approach.

Flip the cars around and I'll ride it more - it'd be an incredible experience, I am sure.

Yeah I'm sure it would, which is why I think it's a good idea. :p
As I've said before, it's a right pain being the last on as you have to walk along the shuttle past everyone to the baggage cages, then all the way back to your seat. :oops:
 
Sheikra is far superior to Oblivion IMO. Much better all round ride and the drop feels a lot more intense at the bottom.
 
In the suggestion of a baggage hold I don't think there's anywhere to put one. The Exit path and the queue don't cross. It would have to be lockers.
To be honest, I’ve never thought of lockers as a bad idea, as long as they were free and big enough to store an average-size bag! Universal Orlando has free lockers next to every coaster, and they work great, from my experience!
