I'm pretty sure the audio and ride start together when the dispatch button is pressed.Just a question. Sorry if it's a dumb one. When Hex starts does the operator have to press a button to start the sound and visuals or does it do it itself when the ride starts? I not this could be the cause of the inconsistency.
You would be correct in saying so. When the dispatch button is pressed it triggers the show controller to start the show (obviously the ride system and show system are separate, just linked by the same 'start' button). If for whatever reason the ride trips out, the show should theoretically continue playing as they are different systems. I believe the show would only stop if the operator decided to stop it using their touchscreen panel next to the operating panel.I'm pretty sure the audio and ride start together when the dispatch button is pressed.![]()

Is the control panel and ops based to the right of the vault as you walk in ?
Also I assume when they stick their thumbs up in the vault another op is watching on a camera to press the restraints are lowering button ?

Not too sure, most of my knowledge stems from The Haunting at Drayton Manor. Since they are the same ride system, they should operate in very similar ways.Is the control panel and ops based to the right of the vault as you walk in ?

I remember watching a behind the scenes video of Hex in the 2010's on YouTube, not sure if it's still online. Might be worth a watch if you haven't seen it and it's still there.

The ops room is accessed by a door just before the vault doors on the entry side, and there is CCTV in all the pre-show rooms as well as the vault.

Think they fixed the parking issues, which were the main reason for the refurb. They also re-dressed the pre-show rooms and updated the smell pods, lighting and speakers etc. Not sure about the main ride control system/panel though.When Hex had it's refurbishment during the Towers Love and Care programme did they do any refurbishment to the ride system or just everything else?

I knew the cameras elsewhere as always try and view them when walking through the turnstile, love looking at all aspects of a attraction

When I rode back in May the op came into the vault and told the host that someone had their phone out, so there is definitely a CCTV screen of the vault in the control room. I assume the Armoury panel CCTV is the 3 pre-show roomsThanks !

The ride and show start together, the op doesn’t have to start the show manually. The parking issue is a known Vekoma madhouse fault as other mad houses have developed it, my understanding based on what I have been told is the ride spins the vault back round to where it thinks it should park, realises it isn’t in the right place and then jogs around until it finds its parking place, obviously by this point the show has progressed to beyond its end point,
I believe Towers have had Vekoma in and they still don’t know what is causing the issue, and as it isn’t safety critical and most people don’t notice there is no point doing a major diagnostic strip down of the ride.

Hex has actually had its two cctv cameras in the vault replaced this year. They are high up in the middle of the ride as you walk in. You’ll see the hosts face that way and out their thumb up when they are ready to go.
I’m surprised it’s taken so long to change the cameras as the old ones were really old and couldn’t really see that much of the vault.

I've always wondered with Hex, and madhouses in general, when the ride is in motion the inner doors to the show vault and the outer doors to the entrance and exit must go out of alignment?
What does that mean for emergency exit and evacuation? Are there times when in the event of a breakdown and the ride refusal to reset that rides could be trapped in the ride? I can't think of a way that this isn't the case, but if it is I would think that's pretty much unique to any ride or attraction and am surprised it'd be allowed.

I would imagine there is a manual rotation system - bit like chains on motor-driven warehouse door shutters - that is in place. Ha, I didnt have that in mind when I wrote that. Maybe the end walls of the vault are thin sheets of wood that can easily be broken so then no matter where the room stopped you could break your way out (or in) in an emergency?All sounds very time consuming if the room is on fire!![]()
