Popular food & drink trends you don’t get

Another one I don't like, sugar free IRN BRU. I like standard IRN BRU and I like the sugar free and low sugar versions of coke and Pepsi, but to me sugar free IRN BRU just tastes wrong. The Scots know how to make a good sugar filled drink,

The recipe for regular IRN BRU was changed a few years ago to get around the sugar tax, some Scots still refuse to drink the new recipe.

I know a guy who runs a chain of gyms for free for people with terminal diseases because of the link between exercise and recovery chances. He gave a talk on sugar free products being one of the most evil inventions of the last 20 years and marketed in ways to make you think it's an ok product to drink compared to full sugared products. He also touched on different products marketed at different demographics - Diet at Women, MAX/Zero at younger mixed generation, Life/Green at the new generation of health kicks.

He pointed out that sugar free products can be more addictive than cocaine and the process that your body goes through when drinking a sugared drink vs a Zero drink is exactly the same. Most of the same hormones are released and keep you hooked for longer and never really satisfying your thirst crave. He then did a whole breakdown of the rise of cancers since the 80s and sugar free drinks in the 80s and there was a similar correlation between the two. In fact he even said in moderation if you were going to drink one or the other, he would recommend drinking the sugared drink (if you aren't diabetic) and take the dopamine hit and work harder to burn it off with exercise.

Slightly off-topic
Colin is q really interesting guy and definitely worth checking out his videos if you can find them. I don't think he has done one on sugar-free products online though :(

don't blame them, it doesn't taste them same. Anyway @Thameslink Rail I forgot you where an IRN BRU consumer, shame there isn't an IRN BRU land in Scotland, anyone fancy an orange Hyper coaster called: HighIRN BRU?

Bring back IRN-BRU Revolution?

The bits in juice are the healthy bits!
Too much sugar to be a real health food, but the bits are good fibre, that shouldn't be filtered out.

Sorry but you'll never convert me, it feels like swallowing frogspawn!

I'm feeling sick now just thinking about it!

I don't mind pulp it's no different to eating an orange for me. However I understand how you feel because I have a similar visceral reaction to bubble tea or aloe drinks:tired:

Last metastudy of research on artificial sweeteners...zero correlation between drinking diet drinks and cancer of all types, and specific types, despite two questionable sets of dubious research results.
Diet drinks are fine if you drink them in moderation, sugar is expensive "useless" calories unless you exercise a great deal.
And the fat kids are getting fatter by the year.

And the fat kids are getting fatter by the year.
Which in itself is a real problem, we have more so called health products than ever before and yet people are getting fatter. There's quite a few reasons and to be fair could have it's own thread so I won't go into detail on my opinions on this issue here.

Yes but imagine the IRN BRU revolution but a whole theme park, I imagine @QTXAdsy would be pleased to see a new park up there.
Don't get me started on a new park here that causes me to foam at the mouth and here's a shock, I'm probably one of few Scots who can't stand Irn Bru, even before the recipe change...I've always been a whisky man myself.

I like the bit where whisky. Got a bottle of Talisker that I've been meaning to finish for a while, actually. :p

On the topic of alcohol and going back to gin, I have never and don't think I will ever understand the hype of gin and tonic. Gin and lemonade is alright but gin and tonic tastes like drinking perfume
