[202X] Project Horizon (SW9?): Planning Approved

Can I get some clarification as to whether this ride will be a roller coaster or not? The past few pages weren’t clear.

Also, in terms of planning application, it’s unlikely that this won’t be approved, just look at Thorpe as an example of planning applications with objections that eventually were bypassed anyway.

If it is an indoor coaster then black track is the way to go. You don't want to see distracting coloured track when you're travelling through show scenes.
Most indoor coasters have black track anyway, likely for this reason.

Although with that being said, CanCan Coaster's track is red, and that doesn't seem to have any real impact on the experience...

On a different side note; what sort of theme do we reckon this ride might have?

Personally, I reckon it might be a space theme. The building has a "flight" type look to it (a la Soarin'), and I also reckon that "Project Horizon" hints towards a space or flight theme of some sort. Space would also fit an enclosed coaster well, in my view, because as Disney have proven many times over the years, you can quite convincingly make a dark coaster fit a space theme.

I'm not convinced we'll be seeing Black Hole 2.0 as some seem to believe, but I do think that a space themed ride seems like quite a logical prediction based on the evidence we have.

It would be nice if they could avoid a space/flight theme. We've already had that with Air/Galactica for god knows how long. They could do something like a copycat car chase Grand Theft Auto Vice City theme or something like that, with cool fluorescent lighting and stuff like that? Unlikely, but thought I'd better suggest something instead of just coming here to say no to a different proposal

Dare I suggest that a space themed ride might give them an excuse to retheme Galactica, as many have been clamouring for ever since the VR was removed?

Perhaps Project Horizon may be built with a view towards Galactica being rethemed prior to its opening... with photos going around at the end of 2022 of Galactica looking a little bit worse for wear and Nemesis' reopening in 2024 putting the limelight squarely onto Forbidden Valley again, it wouldn't surprise me if Galactica received some sort of retheme or touch-up to go alongside that.

A re-theme of Walliams World into 1980's Ocean Drive wouldn't go amiss either. The onboard soundtrack would be top notch.

What a great idea! If Project Horizon is space themed, then surely Galactica could be rethemed back to Air, with the original oasis theming proposed or perhaps it could be themed more into the world of Nemesis eg. as an attack on Nemesis, which was a potential theme considered when Air was being designed?

Of those two, I'd probably lean more towards the deeper integration into the world of Nemesis myself, as I think it would make Forbidden Valley more cohesive and be a good way for the ride to fit in alongside whatever Merlin's vision for the rebirth of Nemesis is.

Back onto Project Horizon, I had another theme-related thought. Are we reckoning it will have an original theme or an IP theme?

My personal suspicion was originally IP, but with John Wardley's suggestion that the ride will utilise "impressive technology", I reckon that the "impressive technology" might be enough of a USP in itself for them to use an original theme.

So I was doing a little Google search into flying theatres and I came across a company called sim worx and looking their brochure it seems they have worked with merlin in the past

Brochure

Could any of these rides be an option for horizon?

It could literally be anything at this stage, but I do think it's more likely to be a coaster in my opinion.

Simworx stuff varies. As usual, it's what budget you put in is what you get out. The Lost Temple for example was out of focus and looked crap.
