Micro-joys - the little things as an adult that make you happy/ find joy in

Driving a manual has one major advantage over automatics... when my American friends come over it gives me a sense of superiority over them. I love to casualy offer "Do you want to drive today?" Simply so they can remind me that they are unable to do so!

Some of them love a "stick shift" though.
If I fall asleep in my tank it just rolls on in a straight line at exactly thirty!
This evening folks, I had the mass glitter and glue gun session with all the bits of copper wire, glass of fizzy rose, matchstick ends, bits of broken bench, half a bottle of red, pasta shells, woodshavings and a small pernod on ice, recycled wooden cards.
Less is more with the glitter this year.
Silly silly grin.

Spending time with friends and family really. Even if it sounds cliché.

Being so much introvert as a child I always enjoyed spending time alone more... I always wanted to be in my own world of rollercoasters, videogames and cartoons. Now I'm kind of depressed when I spend too much time alone. I don't know if I'm slowly shifting towards extrovert or what haha

Glitter is the devil’s *** stain. It is banned from our house.

As I get older, I'm starting to gain a similar worldview to my dad and @DiogoJ42 with regard to glitter... I'm not a fan of the stuff at all. Don't get me wrong, it looks pretty, but it just gets everywhere! We put up our Christmas decorations last weekend, and I swear I'm still finding bits of glitter days later...

When my sister and I were kids, relatives used to love giving us Christmas cards and such filled with glitter just because they knew how much it would irritate my dad...

On a similar note; a "micro-joy" that my parents once expressed to me is that they gain a sadistic satisfaction from purposely giving young kids messy presents at birthdays and Christmases just to annoy the parents...

Or just buy that nice toddler nephew a drum kit!
I thought it sounded a bit mean, but my dad’s justification was “We put up with all that messy s**t when our kids were small! Why shouldn’t we return the favour?”.

I’m sure they’d gain a similar joy from giving a noisy present like a drum kit…

That does seem a little bit mean, if the parents have done nothing wrong.

I had a similar view, but knowing my parents, they definitely only mean it as a joke rather than with any genuine malice or ill intent. My family are quite “jokey” in general.

That is reassuring. Maybe I just don't understand that sort of humour.

I’ve just realised that I seem to have diverted the thread a tad… sorry about that.

On a more on-topic note; I get a strange degree of satisfaction from opening a new piece of technology. There’s nothing quite like buying a new iPad, laptop, phone or something else and taking it out of the box for the first time, in my view!

I don’t know what it is, but I’ve always been strangely satisfied when unboxing a new device and peeling off the cellophane for the first time…

I don't ever feel the urge to go much above 60mph, though...

You really should try 70mph.

It’s like 60mph, but over the course of about an hour, you get to soak up around 10 more miles of scenic tarmac. Bliss.

Or take a trip to Germany and get onto the Autobahn.

Got my Skoda Octavia to 115mph there, before she started flappin around in the wind precariously.

I've never driven a manual. I purposely chose to learn automatic as I felt that all the gears would just have been an overwhelming extra to add to my already tough time learning to drive...

On the subject of driving, I must say that even though I'm generally quite a nervous driver, I do find driving fast along a straight dual carriageway in good conditions quite exhilarating! Does anyone else find that?

No i love this too. I'm fortunate to own quite a fast convertible car (which was motivated by my autistic son's love of sensory/vestibular experiences) so hitting an empty straight road with him is as close as we can get to riding an Intamin launched rollercoaster together.
