Great round, everybody!

Now I've covered the Round 5 results, I think it's about time we moved on... as Round 6 has been extended by 1 day due to an extension request, I cannot cover the Round 6 voting stage right now. As such, let's move onto the next round...
Round 7 Building
Seeing as we've now completed Round 6, I think we need a new round to sink our teeth into, so it's time for me to reveal the Round 7 brief! The Round 7 brief is... The Walking Dead: The Ride Replacement at Thorpe Park! The context for this round is as follows:
The ride now known as The Walking Dead: The Ride has been a stalwart resident of the Thorpe Park roller coaster lineup for 28 years. Initially existing as X:\ No Way Out, the ride was later rethemed to X, but was most recently given a Walking Dead reskin when the park wanted to add a little horror into its lineup. This is a move that Thorpe Park regrets 6 years on, though; with the park transitioning into "the home of feel-good thrills", they don't feel that a zombie-themed family coaster is befitting of their new mission statement. As such, they have finally decided to bid the coaster goodbye after 28 years of thrills and put something new into that space. The park have stated that you must reuse the existing pyramid building, and with Thorpe Park's location on a potential flood risk zone becoming ever more contentious with the Environment Agency and similar environmentalist bodies, they've also decided that it would be best if you didn't dig down either. But other than that, the sky's the limit! What will you replace The Walking Dead: The Ride with?
The constraints for the round are as follows:
  • Must Fit Within Walking Dead Building
  • No Terraforming Allowed
To put things into some perspective, here's the area of Thorpe Park we'll be working with (it's circled in black and labelled "TWD"):
The-Walking-Dead-Area.png

As this round requires a building, I am expecting you to build within a building this time as opposed to within a template. The building is designed to roughly parallel the dimensions of the pyramid portion of the Walking Dead building (the building height was extrapolated from the Hyperia planning application, in case you're wondering).

If you are on PC, I have constructed a pre-built building template for you to build within that can be downloaded via the following Steam Workshop link: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3143596262

If you are on console, I regret to inform you that I cannot provide you with a pre-built template, as Steam Workshop cannot be accessed on a console. I apologise for the inconvenience.

All is not lost, however, as I have provided a step-by-step tutorial showing how to construct the building yourself. This can be accessed in the form of a video where I show myself building the building so that you can build along with me (I apologise if it's a bit crude...):

This can also be accessed in the form of a Google Doc showing written instructions with accompanying pictures, if you prefer written instructions: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1NEat5ltA2h8BuHQ6MmxNJ-QUZVvcnzTbU_aMcXxA_KU/edit?usp=sharing

Please measure your coaster's height using Terrain Relative height markers in build mode (this is the setting labelled with a mountain).

To submit, please build your submission, film a POV and off-ride shots of it, and post the video(s) in this thread. You can briefly describe your ride if you wish. YouTube is the website I'd recommend for uploading videos to, as this would integrate best with the Google Form when it comes to voting, but if you want to upload your video(s) using a different method, then that's also fine. If you have any issues with recording or uploading your video(s), please don't hesitate to contact me. I will try my best to assist you.

May I once again emphasise that this is a coaster layout building contest. By all means add some light theming and landscaping if you wish, but the coaster layout should ideally be the focus. Quality of coaster layout is pretty much the be all and end all here; heavy theming won't gain you any points, and no theming won't lose you any points.

The submission deadline for Round 7 is Friday 2nd February 2024 at 11:45pm. If you struggle for time and would like me to extend the deadline, please PM me or request an extension in this thread before the deadline. If you do not make contact with me and ask for an extension, I will assume that you simply do not want to compete in this round and move on after the posted deadline.

I think that's all I need to cover for Week 7. Good luck with Round 7, folks! If you have any questions or concerns about the round or about anything else, please don't hesitate to contact me. I am always more than happy to help.

Get building for Round 7, everybody! Round 6 Voting will drop tomorrow at 12am, and the Week 8 Weekly Digest will drop exactly one week from today, on Saturday 3rd February 2024 at 12am.

Apologies matt, trying my best to get mine sorted still. If I can’t get it done in time feel free to move on 👍🏻
It’s fine; I’ll extend for however long you need.

I’ve been quite busy this evening anyway; I got very sidetracked and completely forgot that I was supposed to be ending Round 6 today! With this in mind, it would probably be better for me to end it at some point tomorrow now!
Here’s my round 6 submission, I wasn’t originally going to enter this round but thought I might as well due to the deadline extension!

Great submission @Willt7! Your ride packs a lot of track into the space, and it has some really fun inversions and airtime moments!

Thank you Matt, much appreciated. I’ve been out the country for a while now. so finding places to upload and game from is proving a little challenging 😂 I’ll have it with you this afternoon/evening

I'm now attempting to build my submission for this round... and "tight space" is an understatement! If the ride makes it to the brake run in one piece, it'll be a miracle!

I have now completed my submission for Round 7! Say hello to... Kaleidoscope, a Maurer spinning coaster:

So that's Kaleidoscope, my Round 7 submission! I apologise, as I know it's not my greatest submission; I found this a very tough area to work within. I hope you all like it nonetheless!

That looks like a fun ride. It also looks quite smooth.

Apologies Matt, tried to upload mine but for some reason North Africa has bad internet service! Go figure ay.

That’s fine; upload your Round 6 (and Round 7) submissions whenever you’re able to!

This weeks entry is sponsored by all major painkiller medications because you'd need them all. :tearsofjoy:

MEGRIM - A...er, concept...compact RMC with a vertical lift into a hangtime inversion, and a layout that is enough to make you wish for the end to come immediately. A perfect addition for Thorpe.

@Matt N I can't get steam to work properly and it won't let me sign in on the browser to download it.

Could you upload it to the steam workshop? I can find your account through the steam desktop app but can't find the template

Because what I'm entering this week is crap (I struggled with it), I thought I'd whack up the Stampeda round coaster that I built. No idea why I missed the deadline, but syncing these trains to duel took me ages. The whole build took me ages, so I didn't want to waste it for all the effort.

Anyway, on to this week's actual submission. If Thorpe are embracing what they are with their new mission statement, then I thought it would be quite fitting that they build something that embraces their core clientele of young, tracksuit wearing hoodlums running riot.

With the smell of weed in the air all around the park, Thorpe have decided the X building would make an excellent cannabis farm.

This is 'Reefa: Da Ride (Innit Bruh, ya get me?)'

I managed to fit 3 inversions in there. Not smooth because I couldn't smooth it any more due to how close the track pieces are together. It's also right up against the walls and ceiling. But at least I got it in on time!

It’s on Steam Workshop already; it’s just unlisted rather than public. I’ve now made it public, if that makes it easier.

Awesome Stampida build @Matt.GC! Your rides contain loads of airtime and some very interesting inversions!

I can’t accept it as an official submission, unfortunately, as the Round 5 deadline elapsed last week and the voting has already happened. Sorry about that; it’s a nice build nonetheless!

As for your Round 7 submission; you’ve certainly managed to get a fair amount of thrill out of the space, and your ride has some interesting inversions!

For everyone else; as we’re nearly halfway through Week 7 and have not received all Round 6 submissions yet, I have made the decision to delay Round 6 voting to Week 8, where it will run in tandem with Round 7 voting. As such, I will now allow any late submissions for Round 6 to be posted until Friday 2nd February 2024 at 11:45pm, the same deadline as Round 7.
