Thorpe Park: General Discussion

Finally got my chance to ride it yesterday, starting early with a front row seat. Absolutely breathtaking, wonderful pacing through the elements, felt silky smooth, very fast. The head chopper down that first drop definitely took me by suprise!

We then nipped to Chessington and did most of the big rides before heading back to thorpe for an afternoon spin on hyperia again, this time we got back row

My word. What a different experience that was, the pull over that first drop was nearly terrifying, so much more intense on the back row, the overbank inversion is the most bizarrely beautiful thing I can Invision. Sensational coaster, and has very firmly placed itself along side shambhala as my favourite. I just can't bring myself to nudge that one down.
 
May I add that when we joined the queue at around 4pm with an advertised time of 100 minutes. We picked a person wearing loud clothing as a marker in the single rider queue, so we could get an idea as to how that was doing. We got off before they had even reached the stairway up to the station. So I guess it's luck of the draw with single rider!

Was the same for my first ride on the Wednesday. Joined the main queue about 3pm, 70 minutes advertised and we went past who entered the single rider queue at the same time on the stairs up to the station.
 
Yea I've been doing the same thing with clocking people in the single rider queue getting on after I've used the main queue despite batching being very generous with single riders the 2 times I've used it they just sat me with my friend because let's say there's 2 rows to fill and there's a group of 5 they won't call anyone forward they'll fill it with single riders same with uneven groups they instantly resort to single riders even if they can easily mix groups.

The problem is everyone has the same idea you'll get big groups of people hoping to cut down wait times but end up waiting longer and not sitting with each other.
 
Had my first ride on this Sunday morning.

It’s a very good ride but It didn’t blow me away. I had a row 9 seat (one from the back).

It takes the elements at much more speed than it looks off ride. Plenty of air time moments if you are after that sort of thing. The trains and restraints are very comfortable, it wasn’t buttery smooth exactly but did have a bit of a bounce which is expected at 80 mph. My favourite part of the ride was the first drop, without doubt especially towards the back.

The overall length is unfortunately too short which is what I expected. Just as I felt it was getting going you hit the trim and it’s pretty much all over. The area around the ride is underwhelming, queue is a bit plain with no cover at all. All the planted trees are already dying off inside the ride area which is a shame.

The lift motor is very very loud in the queue, the organisation was terrible Sunday as they had a bike ride and run inside the park which made us queue outside longer and caused a lot of distress for people once inside as we were held at different points. It opened late (as per Thorpe park tradition). I did one ride on Hyperia and went home as I was in the area for other reasons.
 
Went on it for the first time, managed to get on the back row and I love the ride probably one of my favourite uk rides, it just has so much I haven't seen on a rolercosster, with head chopper moments air time and more.
Although there were a few thing I think that should change, the first is the land scaping, although it has been talked about already. I also think the queue fencing should be changed slightly, only the tall fencing used under the lift, I think should be painted black with gold accents, this is because it is the same fencing on nemesis, but since nemesis fence is black it is harder to notice, as with fencing of this type it is harder to notice if it is painted black.
 
are they opening up the full queue line at the moment? It’s a bit concerning seeing all these vlogs with advertised 90min queues yet the queue line still seems to be coming out of the entrance and into the temporary queue… surely they’ve built a long enough queue to eat up more than 90 mins worth of crowd

All the queue is open, it holds about an hour
 
I don't think there's any way to close off parts of the queue line even if they wanted to.

That said, given how short it is there wouldn't be much need unless the park was extremely quiet. I'd say it probably has slightly less queue line than Saw.
 
It will depend on FT/RAP.

I have waited about 55 from outside the entrance, though there was quite a gap at the shop due to the number of people buying stuff.
 
It’s absolutely wild to me that they’ve built such a short queue for a park that regularly gets over an hour waiting times. Why spend all that money making the area look (half) decent and then have temporary queue like fences out for busier periods? I’d imagine these fences will be in place throughout the summer holidays and then for fright nights also.

So much wasted space for this project, whether that be the plaza that never was, a slightly longer layout after the splash down or queue line that had a little bit more than 5 minutes of thought. Imagine having the queue line running down the side of the brake run or potentially crossing over the lake once or twice. The sight lines would’ve been fantastic. A missed opportunity for sure…

This is the wear strip, I don't think it is another theory as this is what was rumoured all along. A good watch though, thanks for sharing.
 
Is there an abundance of new 'polymers' being used on rides that just aren't working very well. I keep reading that a lot of new rides are opening with a 'rattle' and people are suggesting that new wheel polymers are potentially to blame. This includes Voltron and it was suggested that Mack were experimenting with new wheel compositions.

It's probably the hippies insisting we can't use plastic any more, so they've switched to a plant based goo or something. ;)
