[20XX] Euro Mir 2.0

Never spins on the lifthill? That's interesting, is there a reason for that?
Pretty sure it's to do with the ride safety envelope - as that front car is right next to the vertical steel support of the rotating drum (which 'catches' the wheel on the side of the train to pull the train up), I think riders in that front car would be at risk if they were to stick their arms out. Those in the subsequent cars don't have the same risk.

That's just conjecture, though.

That jives with what I've always assumed / heard from others.

Not heard anything regarding Mir 2.0 in a while, until this interview with Roland by Badische Zeitung published yesterday popped up.

Seems to be all but confirmed that Mir as we know it is getting demolished within the next few years, but left vague whether the park will invest in a 2.0 or something completely new. I'm wondering if this year is the last it'll be open, or if they'll close it in 26 to avoid associating a ride removal with their 50th anniversary.

Translated excerpt (courtesy of Google):
The Russian area is to be revised in the coming years. The Euro-Mir rollercoaster will be completely demolished and a new coaster built in its place. "It has to keep going, standing still means going backwards" says Mack
Original excerpt:
Stillstand bedeutet Rückschritt", so Mack.

I assume “Monaco” is going in around the Silverstar area?

However, surely a retheme/removal of Russia to Monaco and MIR getting changed makes more sense.

Then they could have their Raving themed ride in Monaco. Not saying they will do this, but would make perfect sense.

Yep, Monaco is Silver Star area as the Mercedes sponsorship has ended. I believe they've already stripped down the Merc stuff within the station and have started already.

Please correct me if I'm wrong as I can't currently find where I saw it, but I believe that the Mack's said last year that they have no intention on replacing Russia with something else, and will be keeping it as an area. Plans of course can change.

As long as it closes after my visit (I'd imagine would be after peak summer season anyway, even a park of Europa's capacity shenanigans wouldn't want to lose this for busy times).

Still an icon.

Oh the irony, the same news site has provided an update a few minutes ago.

Again, translated excerpt:
"In the medium term, no changes are planned for the extremely popular Euro-Mir roller coaster." Reportedly, a new ride in the Russian-themed area is not expected for at least four to five years. The "Badische Zeitung" previously reported on this.
It also mentions that Russia is staying (also the irony of me remembering seeing this but not where)
No changes planned in the Russian subject area

Mack had already announced a new Euro-Mir building in October and stated that there should be no changes to the Russian-themed area of the park. He made it clear that he would not allow politics and conflicts to dictate the agenda for the recreational facility in the Ortenau district. This line remains valid, a spokesperson said.

The park themselves have posted on their French Twitter page about Euro Mir:

In English, this roughly translates to:
In the medium term, we have no plans to remove Euro Mir. However, roller coaster technology has progressed, and we intend to take advantage of this by introducing a new attraction within the next few years.

To me, it does sound as though the park may be planning to replace Euro Mir in the coming years, regardless of whether it closes this year or not.

I don’t know if I sound a bit like a conspiracy theorist here, but I also wonder if something was maybe inadvertently revealed in the initial article before EP was ready to reveal it. Perhaps the second article was a hasty retraction attempting to cover this up?

I certainly won’t miss Euro Mir if and when it goes, anyhow. For me, it’s easily the park’s weakest coaster at present, and I think Mack could do something far better now.

It’s clear from the redo of EuroSat that the park want to fo in a direction of more themed rides. I think that will mean EuroMir’s relentless intensity will be replaced a la EuroSat.

I know that divides opinion.but CanCan is the proof in practice that it works. I look forward to a ride that is more themed and in keeping with the area (even if that area is no longer Russian).

For me the perfect outcome would be keep the indoor lift-hill but completely re-track the outside and replace the cars! Happy with any re-theme as long as it keeps that soundtrack.....that would be the sweet -spot for me, I generally really enjoy new-get mack spinners, and think they should keep it as the family model.

As for Russia - I wondered if they could convert it to Ukraine - as it would retain a slavic aesthetic OR indeed theme it to historical 'Slav' culture in general, much like places have 'Scandinavia' as a themed area.

However I'm not hugely apposed to Russia remaining - as it represents Cultural Russia NOT Political Russia.

Inadvertently promoting the concept that Russia and Ukraine are interchangable and should be the same entity. Best just to not fiddle.

Or theme it to the medieval Kievan Rus'. It was all one and the same back then.

I'm honestly not sure that many people have a problem with the theming of the area - possibly cancel culture is a bit less of a thing in mainland Europe. Unless they're thinking of plastering a huge portrait of Putin on one of the EuroMir towers I say leave it as it is.
